Chapter Twelve

Liz was in the waiting room with Luke, Laura, Lulu and Nikolas. Audreys organs had been removed and Lucky was being prepared for surgery. Liz was thrilled inside that lucky was going to live, but she hurt so much too.

It killed her that Gram had died. Logically she knew she was blameless but deep down she felt that she was at fault. She had called Audrey to come support her in her time of need. If AUdrey ahd not felt she had to hurry to come to the hospital, she would be fine right now. Liz ahd mixed feelings about that. Yes, Gram would be alive, but Lucky would still be dying.

Nik came and sat beside her, "I'm so sorry about youur Grandmother Liz, she was a great woman."

"THanks Nik," Liz said wearily, "She didn't deserve to die."

"SHe did life a full life though," Nik said, taking her hand.

"yeah," Liz sighed, she needed to talk and decided to dump her problems on Nickolas,"I just feel so guilty Nik. For more than one reason. First off, I was the reason she was driving so fast. Second, I am just a horible person. I feel bad she died, yes, but I'm also glad. Lucky can now live, adn I'm happy she's gone for that reason. I'm terrible."

"COme on Liz, you have nothing to feel bad about. Yes, you called Audrey to come to the hospital, but she lost control of hte car, not you. Sure your happy that the love of your life has a chance to live, that's completely normal. It's not like you don't care that your grandmother died." Nik said reassuringly.

Liz sighed, "I know that, I really do, but it doesn't stop me from feeling guilty."

"Listen Liz, I didn't know AUdrey real well, but I'm sure she is happy you are going to be able to haev someone like Lucky to care about you. She was old Liz, and this way, even though you miss her horibbley she can help you out." Liz said emphatically.

"Thanks Nik," Liz said, hugging him, "I need a friend right now."

"It's nothing Liz," he said, "hey, adn if you ever need anyhting, just call me ok?"

"Thanks," she was grateful Lucky had such a nice brother.

"HEy, you've helped me cope with so much over the past couple weeks, I owe you." he smiled.

Bobbie walked into the waiting room, "Well the surgery is about to start."

Everyone pestered her with question.

"How long will the surgery take?" Liz asked anxiously.

"If all goes well, 3 hours." Bobbie said.

Luke asked the question that plagued everyone the most, "In his present condition, waht are the chances of him surviving the surgery?"

"It's hard to know Luke," Bobbie replied. "Maybe 50/50 at best."

Liz took a deep breath.

Bobbie smiled at them all reassuringly and walked out again.

They all setlled in to wait. Luke and Laura were pestered bt Lulu who couldn't settle down. Liz saw that they were getting annoyed.

"Hey Lulu, why don't you and I go for a walk? We'll be here a long time so let's go find somehting to do." Liz held out ehr hand which Lulu took.

Luke and Laura looked at her gratefully.

"Send someone to findme if there's any news," Liz told them walking form the room wiht Lulu.

Liz took her outside. It was a beautiful day. THe sun was shining brightly and there was no need to go bakc in for hteir coats.

"See 'lizabeth, my praying worked, Lucky is going to be OK!"

Liz laughed, the girls enthusiasm cheered her up.

Lulu stopped smiling for a minute, "I guess I won't be getting any presents now."

"Oh Lulu, God didn't let Lucky live because you promised to not ask for any presents, he did becasue he wanted it that way. I'm sure God will understand if you ask for soem presents for Christmas."

"You sure 'Lizabeth?" Lulu asked dubiously.

"Positive," Liz assured her.

Lulu shrugged,"Okay, race you!" adn then took off.

Liz laughed adn jogged after her.

HTey ran around the block and ended up back in front of GH.

"Guess you beat me!" Liz panted, Lulu was so energetic, "Let's go back inside."

"Okay," Lulu agreed, "Is Lucky all better yet?"

"No honey, it will be awhile yet."

HTey walked back inside the hopsital, Lulu bugging Liz about how she could run faster than her.

THey reached the waiting room adn walked back in....
