As they entered the study Lucky was still wondering what he was doing in Audrey's will. Not only was he not related to her, he had been dying. What was going on?
Jeff and Caroline were sitting on a couch across the room. They looked up as Liz and Lucky entered the room. Liz felt their eyes bore into her as they sat down in two chairs.
Alexis sat in a desk at the edge of the room. Bobbie was there as well. Sarah had picked a chair between everyone, a nuetral position.
"I believe everyone's here," Alexis said, putting on her glasses,"We can begin."
Jeff interrupted,"Excuse me Ms.Davis, but what is HE doing here? I thought this meeting was for those mentioned in the will."
"Mr.Webber, you're right it is. Young Mr.Spencer is mentioned in your mothers will." Alexis glared at him over the frame of her glasses.
Caroline shot to her feet,"What! He isn't family! He shouldn't inherit a thing."
"Neither am I Caroline and your mother-in-law left me something, so just shut up okay?" Bobbie said, ticked off.
Carline settled back on the couch, glaring daggers at them all.
"Now, as I as saying," Alexis began, "Mrs.Hardy left a will concerning the distribution of her posessions. I trust we can conduct ourselves orderly while I read her last will and testament?"
Everyone nodded.
"Now, attached to each bequest she left little notes to the recipient. To save time I will hand them out after the bequest. Any problems with that?" Alexis asked, all business.
Liz shook her head mutley. All around her the others were doing the same.
"Allright. The first entry in the will is for her grand-daughter Sarah Webber. Ms.Webber, you have been granted 10,000 in trust for use in your education."
{Authors note: Don't know how rich Audrey is but in this fanfic she's going to be fairly wealthy}
Alexis handed her the letter Audrey had left for her. Liz saw Sarah's eyes cloud over as she read the letter.
"Now, Ms.Spencer. Audrey left you her shares in GH. She left you no letter though, save a note here that says thanks for everyhting."
{Do hospitals have shares like banks? anyway....}
"Now, Mr and Mrs Webber, there is a very generous bequest left to you. It is in the amount of 50,000 dollars to use at your descretion."
Caroline looked shocked that they didn't inherit the house from Audrey. She was about to say somehting, but Jeff put a restraining hand on her shoulder.
"Here's your letter," ALexis said handing, it over. Jeff thanked her, but didn't open it.
"Next, Mr.Spencer. Audrey left you a small bequest of 1,000, but she did not specify it's use. I assume you can spend it as you chose. Here as well, is a letter she left." Alexis handed it to him.
He accepted it, but was still confused. He would wait to open the letter till after.
"Now, Ms.Webber, you stand to inherit quite a bit. There is a bequest here for you to inherit 40,000 to use at your descretion. As well, you are the sole heir to her estate which includes the land, house and all things in it."
Liz was shocked, she had never expected Gram to be so generous. She glanced guiltily at Sarah, she felt bad that she ahd recieved so much more than Sarah.
"Here is the letter she gave you. Now, the rest of her money was specified to be used to cover funeral expenses and whatever is left will go to GH."
Caroline and Jeff lept to their feet. THey didn't even bother to restrain their indignation at their daughters generous inheritance.
"THis can't be!" Jeff fumed, "How can she inherit so much? I am Audrey's son. She doesn't deserve a thing. What was mother thinking?"
"Mr.Webber, I ask that you restrain yourself. These are your mother's wishes, and, I assure you eveything is in perfect order. If you wish to show such disrespect for you mother and daughter please leave the room. Ms.Webber will be granted all that was left to her in the will." Alexis didn't bother to hide her digust at JEff's attitude.
Jeff was about to blow up at Alexis, but Caroline looked excited all of a sudden,"She's a minor, she can't actually own this stuff can she?"
"Mrs.Webber, one way or another she can. If it is uncontested Ms.Webber will inherit all outright. If contested, she ill inherit but it will be placed in the name of someone who is legally an adult, one of her choice. There is no way you can benefit form her inheritance, the worst that cn happen to her is that it can be placed in trust until she reached the age of 18."
Elizabeth was fed up already at her parents attitudes, "Mother, Father please stop it. I know you're angry and bitter towards me, but stop the theatrics. It's done."
Caroline and Jeff completely ignored her. Jeff continued to argue repeatedly with Alexis over the validity of the will. The room fell silent at Lucky's piercing whistle.
"I'm sorry Mr,Mrs. Spencer but I would appreciate if you would stop this. This will gain you nothing. I don't want to offend you, but it really doesn't matter does it? You want nothing to do with Eliabeth, it's breaking her heart but you don't give a damn do you? This was Audrey's choice, not Elizabeths and you have no say in it. It will hurt Liz tremendulously if you leave, it will even upset me, but if you are going to continue like this I suggest you go back to Europe."
Liz's heart swelled with love at Lucky's speech, "I love you Mom, dad, but if you aren't going to forgive me there's nothing I can do. Just don't hurt me any more."
Sarah stood up, "They're right you guys. Let's just go and finish packing, our plane leaves early tomorrow."
"You're siding with them?" Caroline asked incredulously.
"Mother, I'm not 'siding' with anyone. I just think it's tme to go."
"You should be angry Sarah, you're sister got more than you," Jeff sounded childish.
"I'm not Father. It's the way it is, and I'm happy for her. Liz needs all the help she can get with the baby on the way. Now please, let's just go."
They glared at everyone, but, seeing that there was nothing to be gained by staying, got up to go. Before exiting the room, they couldn't resist getting som last digs in at Liz.
"I hope you're satisfied," Jeff hissed, "I'm surprised mother never saw through you. I thought she was more perceptive than that."
"Honestly dad, give it up. You made your point, you hate me." Liz tried to stay strong and show no pain.
"We're going, never to return,"Caroline began,"But just so you understand, you are not our daughter as of now. We cannot accept a whore as our child."
{I know the reaction is a little strong but this is how I want to portray them}
They stormed out of the room. As she saw the tears in Liz's eyes sarah came up and hugged her.
"I'm sorry Liz, they have no right. Maybe, in a couple years.."
"No Sarah, you heard them. Besides, I'm not sure if I coujld forgive them for this,"Liz pulled away and wiped away the tears, suddnely not as sad, Disappointed in her parents, yes, but the pain had subsided.
"Thank you for everyhting Sarah, I'm glad I at least have my sister."
"Trust me, so am I. Now, I better go too, I'll see you. I'm going to come visit when the baby is born, I want to meet my niece or nephew."
They embraced one last time, and after a nod to Lucky, Sarah left.
"Well, that was interesting," Lucky said.
