Lucky heard the sirens outside the boat as the ambulances pulled up on the docks. He didn't move, just sat their, rocking Elizabeth in his arms. His clothes were soaked with her blood. Tears still fell freely from his eyes.
The ambulance attendants nearly ahd to pry Elizabeth from Lucky's arms. He stared blindly as they lay her on the stretcher, and checked for pulse etc.'Why are they bothering'? He wondered dumbly, 'She's dead'.
Nikolas walked up behind him, and put a reassuring hand on his shoulder as the paramedics worked on Elizabeth.
"Clear!" the attendant yelled as he shocked Elizabeth, her body lifting off the stretcher.
"Faint heartbeat!" one attendant yelled out, "But not stable, we gotta get her to General Hospital fast!"
Lucky watched helplessly as they loaded his beloved into the back of one of the ambulances.
Luke watched his son stare at the departing ambulance. He galnced at the bodies of Helena and Faison that were being put into body bags, He smiled grimly, at least Lucky was a good shot.
He walked up to where the attendant was zipping up Helena's body bag. The head was still exposed, and he motioned for the guy to stop. Luke knelt down by the body of his dead enemy. He felt no pity, no remorse at ehr death.
Her eyes stared up at him, not seeing anything anymore. He reached out his ahnd and gently shut her eyelids.
"YOu got part of you deserved Helena," he said calmly, "You see, if I had been the one with a gun trained on you and not my son, you would have suffered first. But, unfortunately that wasn't the case. At least now your dead."
Luke glanced at the retreating ambulance carrying Elizabeth, "What you did to her was worse than what you did to all of us. If you could haev felt half the pin that girl went through I would have been satisfied."
With that, Luke spit in Helena's face and stood up. The attendant didn't admonish him, just slowly zipped the bag up all the way. Luke walked slowly over to his son. Nikolas moved discreetly away.
"Is she going to be okay dad?" Lucky asked, his voice quivering, He sounded about 10 years old, needing reassurance from his fahter that everything would be allright.
Luke sighed, "I hope so Cowboy, I really hope so."
Mac ran in the cabin. The police ahd come automatically when he placed the call to the paramedics. He saw Felicia sitting in chair, sporting a black eye, and looked mad enough to kill.
"Luke!" he said, striding over to them, "What did I tell you about risking my wife's life. She could have been......"
Mac's voice drifted off, "Lucky?" he asked, his mouth wide open.
Luke nodded tersely, "Now if you don't mind Bubba, we've got to get to the hospital."
Mac shook his head, "I need statements from all of you. But... Lucky, how can this be?"
Luke shook his head, "Later, we need to get to the hospital, Elizabeth was shot. COme by there later and get all the statements you need."
Mac could only watch as Luke and his son walked out of the door. Felicia walked up behind him, "It's a long story dear, you see...."
Lucky ran into the hospital, followed by Luke. Now that it dind't matter who saw him alive he didn't care who saw him he just wanted to find Elizabeth.
Tony was running by, Lucky grabbed his arm, "Where is Elizbaeth?"
Tony did a double take, "Lucky? You're dead!"
"Obviously he's not," Luke said drily, "Now how's Elizabeth?"
Tony promtly forgot his shock at seeing Lucky alive, "We have to get her into surgery. She lost a lot of blood. We have to repair the wound and access the damage to her insides."
"Will she be okay?" Lucky asked.
Tony shrugged apologetically, "I don't know, but we'll do all we can."
With taht, he continued his rush to the surgical room.
Lucky flopped down on one of the seats in the waiting room, and put his head into his hands. He ran his fingers through his hair restlessly. He cared not that half of the nurses were doing double takes as they saw the dead son of Laura Spencer sitting on the couch.
Luke walked over and sat down beside Lcuky, putting his arms around him, "She'll be allright Cowboy," Luke whspered, "You just keep believing that. Elizabeth is a strong girl, she'll pull through."
Lucky looked up, tears evident in his eyes, "If she dies dad, it will be all my fault. She got shot trying to save my life."
"Lucky, it won't be your fault. Even if Elizabeth doesn't make it, this would be the way she would want to go. She loved you, and saving your life would make everything worth it for her."
Lucky stood up, "Dad, her life is worth more than 20 of mine. If she dies........." his voice trailed off.
Luke stood up beside him, "If seh dies, which she won't, you'll survive. You loved her more than anything, but you'd have the sense to go on. She took the bullet so you could have a life, don't waste that gift seh gave to you."
Nikolas and Laura ran out of teh elevator. They saw Lucky and Luke and walked over to them.
"HOw is she?" Nik asked anxiously.
Lucky sighed, "She's in surgery, htey don't know if she'll pull through."
Laura hugged Lucky, "I'm so sorry Lcuky, but I'm sure she'll be fine. You just keep believing that and everything will be okay."
Lucky burrowed his head into his mothers shoulder, "I hope so mom, God I hope so."
Bobbie walked up behind them. "Luke, Laura, waht are you guys doing here?"
Laura pulled away from Lucky, who stared up at his aunt.
"Lucky," Bobbie whispered, "How is this possible? You're dead, I mean, they identified the body. Where have you been"
Lucky hugged Bobbie, "I know it is hard to believe, but it is too long to get into right now. Just accept the fact that I am alive and well. Elizabeth was shot and we are waiting to see how she is."
"She's is surgery?" BObbie asked, trying hard not to stare incredulously at Lucky.
Lucky nodded, "Tony is oeprating on her."
Bobbie nodded, "I'll go scrub in. I know it won't change anything, but I want to make sure she'd okay and taht everything is being done for her. I'll come back as soon as there is any news at all."
Lucky watched her walk away, "Everyone is accepting the fact that I am alive quite well."
Luke nodded, "Yeah, well, stress and preoccupation with more important matterrs make the change easier. Plus, this thing happens all the times in Port Charles."
Laura squeezed Lucky's shoulder and said, "I'll go get us all some coffee, I have a feeling we'll be here for awhile."
AS Luke, Lucky and Nikolas all sat down on the couch to wait anxiously, Mac walked up, pulling Felicia behind him.
He poited his finger at Luke, "First, I'm going to get your statement about what happened, and then I am going to kill you! HOw could you risk my wife's life like that Luke!"
Luke rose to his feet, "Listen Bubba, your wife does what ever she wants to. I told her she couldn't come, but do you think she listened to me? NOw, it's her life, and not yours so give it a rest. I know you are worried sick something could have happened to her,b ut it didn't. However, something did happen to Elizabeth Webber, and if you don't mind, we'd like to wait to hear about her until we subject ourselves to your hostile questions."
Felicia peeked out from around Mac's shoulders, "I tried to tell him all this, but he refuses to listen."
"Felicia dear," Mac said condesendingly, turning around, "I know you think you were acting of your own free will, but I'm sure Luke coerced you in some way...."
Felicia cut him off, "He did no such thing Mac. I make my own choices. NOw, if you don't mind, we'll bicker later. They are waiting for news about someone they all love dearly. So, shut up and come with me."
An astonished Mac followed her as she tugged him off, away from the family. Luke sighed a sigh of relief as he watched Bubba get pulled away. He squeezed Lucky's shoulder, and went to grab a cup of coffee.
It seemed like days that they spent in the waiting room. Every time Lucky heard somebody coming, he jumped up, expecting to see Tony. Each time he was disappointed.
Lucky leaned abck against the headrest of the chair and closedm his eyes. Lack of sleep and exhaustion made him fall asleep.
Elizabeth stood before him in an elegant gown. They were outside of Wyndmere, where they had danced the night of Stefan's ball. Lucky glanced down to see he was wearing a tux as well.
Liz held out her hand to him silently. He took her hand, and they circled each other.
The first strains of the music started and Elizabeth smiled. Lucky was awestruck by ehr beauty and pulled her close to him. He held her gently in his arms as they circled the dance floor.
We're the King and Queen of hearts,
Hold me when the music starts
All my dreams come true
When I dance with you
Promise me you're mine tonight,
I've been waitin' lyin' tonight;
While the lights are right
I'll never let you go.
(Hoh) Did I dream that we danced forever
In a wish that we made together
On a night that I prayed would never end (end)
You know it's not my imagination
Or a part of the orchestration
Love was here at the culmination
I'm the king and you're queen of hearts.
Time will pass and tears will fall
But someday we'll both recall
Moments made of this,
Golden memories.
CHORUS
In a once and future dream
Where the dances never seem to start.
CHORUS
Lucky smiled at the feel of his love in his arms. He felt there was something he should be remembering, but this all felt too good. Elizabeth squeezed him tight as the music ended.
Lucky held her at arms length, and looked his fill of her. She smiled and blushed.
All of a sudden, the whole ting changed. Elizabeth's expression turned to one of terror. "Lucky, no!" seh screamed.
Lucky tried to comfort her, but she couldn't hear him.
"Lucky!" seh moaned falling to her knees.
He knelt down beside her and tried to plead with her, "It's alright Liz, I'm right here. I'm okay."
"Lucky, look out!" she yelled, oblivious to his actual presense.
All of a sudden she stood absolutely still. Her body jerked, and she looked down at her chest. She looked abck up in absolute astonishment, and fell to the ground.
"Ellizabeth!" Lcuky yelled, falling to the ground beside her.
He tried to pick her up, but found it impossible. Her body had nos ubstance and she crumbled in askes through his outstretched arms.
Lucky awoke, gasping for breath. He looked around confused, and realized he was still at GH, and Liz was still in surgery.
He glanced around. Nik and Laura were talking in front of the elevator, Luke was talking to one of the nurses.
He raked his hands through his hair and sighed deeply. Lucky prayed that the dream was nothing more than that, a dream.
He looked up to ind Tony walking out of the OR, his scrubs bloody and a grim expression on his face.
