I must have watched
Japanese dramas since young. It was in the eighties and I was already watching
Japanese dramas - Momoe Yamaguchi falling in love but later discovering that her
love interest was her half-brother. And volleyball competitions where
there were unbelievable strokes. Later, there was of course Oshin, which
portrayed how traditional Japanese woman struggle with their lives.
Early 1997, I took
up a basic introductory course in Japanese language, and began to watch Japanese
dramas on national TV. It was in mid 1997 when I started really seriously
watching Japanese drama serials such as Heaven's Coins, Our house, and
later Long Vacation, Love Generation, etc. I must admit that I enjoyed
these dramas, but not to the extent that I became a fanatic (well, I'm after
all, quite a rational person).
What I like about
Japanese dramas is that they are usually quite short - about 10 to 12 episodes
per serial, which doesn't make the story drag. Also, they have interesting
(and uncommon) plots which twist and turn. For instance, I like the way
how the story starts in the first episodes - as the main leads usually meet each
other in a rather extraordinary way (e.g. Sena met Minami in her wedding dress,
Teppei met Riko when he was trying to pick her up for a
one-night-stand).
Of course, I'm sure
many viewers also watch Japanese dramas to feast their eyes on their
idols. And I do agree that the Japanese actors and actresses are really
handsome and beautiful "creatures". Unlike the Japanese serials in the
eighties, recent Japanese dramas are more trendy-dramas, which is probably why
many youngsters have gone crazy over them. What I like about
Japanese dramas is that they can really
make people cry or
laugh as the story unfolds. In addition, there are usually many meaningful
quotes or special items which make the dramas even better. In short, they
are simply very nicely "packaged".
Well, as I have said earlier that I'm not really a fanatic (I do like them!), I hope you will like the pages I've done. And don't forget to download the Japanese drama theme songs, which I will frequently update.
