The 1998 Sunset Beach Awards

Sunset Central's
1998 SUNSET BEACH AWARDS
Sunset Central Presents to you It's Pick for the 1998 Sunset Beach Awards!

Sunset Beach has taken it's fans on a wild adventure this past 1998.
Here, Sunset Central picks the hot and not-so hot moments of 1998. Note: These picks are not necessarily my personal favorites, but rather those whom I think overall deserve the award. Take a look!

HOTTEST ROMANCE: Meg & Ben
From the day Sunset Beach aired, Meg and Ben have been Sunset's resident supercouple. They have a love and romance like no other on the beach. They truly deserve this honor.

HOTTEST MALE CHARACTER: Ben Evans
Ben Evans is the dashing, debonair, and most of all handsome! His accent and charm make him one of Sunset's finest leading men! His smile and romantic side make him Sunset's hottest!

HOTTEST FEMALE CHARACTER: Annie Douglas
Annie, Annie, Annie... there is no other word for Annie other than HOT! She is Sunset's resident bitch and still everyone loves her! She deserves this honor because no one could pull off the stunts Annie has without a little femme fatale qualities! Annie's got em'!

HOTTEST TRIANGLE: Meg/Ben/Maria
This triangle has barely just begun, but already I am torn. I love Meg and Ben (who doens't), but Christina Chambers makes Maria so likeable! She makes me route for Maria to reclaim her past...and Ben while I still love Meg and Ben. From the response I get on this page, I am not the only one who feels this way. The astounding fan support to a Maria/Ben pairing makes this triangle the best one I have seen in a long time! Whoever Ben ends up with is yet to be seen, but the journey is really worth watching!

BEST NEW COUPLE: Sara and Casey
Since the day Rae Chang left Sunset Beach and Casey Mitchum behind, fans have been hoping for a new lady love in Casey's life. Finally, our prayers were answered...enter Sara Cummings. Running from the turmoil of a Washington Scandal right into the waiting arms of our lovable Casey. This couple has taken their sweet ole' time to get together but the wait was worth it. These two are destined to be the next supercouple of Sunset Beach! They are HOT!

BEST FEMALE NEWCOMER: Christina Chambers
Christina was in for a real battle when she took on the role of the amnesiac "Dana" only now to be revealed as Ben's "dead" wife Maria! No one thought that bringing Maria back from the dead was a good idea. No one believed that she could actually divide Meg and Ben fans everywhere. Well, Christina Chambers has changed all of our minds. She is an amazing and gifted actress who shares chemistry with both Clive and Susan. She can take Maria from being the scared and alone wanderer to a kind and independent Maria. She makes you like Maria, which is what no one thought would happen! We couldn't have asked for a better actress to come into the Meg/Ben storyline! She's amazing!

BEST MALE NEWCOMER: Nick Kiriazis
I knew from the day Sunset Beach hired Nick Kiriazis that he would be one of the top leading men on the show... and I was right! Nick Kiriazis is an amazing actor. Not only is he handsome - he can act! He plays the conflicted priest so well. From Father Antonio's faith in his religion, to his inter-conflict with his manhood -- Nick Kiriazis has been nothing short of spectacular. He is a definite up-and-comer in daytime. I just wish he had a little more airtime so that others would notice his talent!

BEST FEMALE BONDING: Meg and "Dana" (a.k.a Maria)
We knew the minute Meg and "Dana" met that they would become fast buddies. Why? Because everyone knew that "Dana" was really Maria. What better way to cause conflict than to pair her as Meg's new best friend. Surprisingly, it worked! Meg and Maria's friendship turned out to be enjoyable. They clicked! Susan and Christina shara a great chemistry and amazingly - so do Maria and Meg. Their friendship is kind, caring and thoughtful. They think of each other before thinking of themselves. It makes the Meg/Ben/Maria triangle all the more complicated. We all know this friendship probably won't last forever... but it's been enjoyable in the meantime!

BEST MALE BONDING: Gregory and Ben
You hardly see Gregory playing nice with any other men on the show. With all the enemies he has, it's no wonder. But recently, we have been treated to some nice moments between Gregory and Ben. They have a mutual respect for one another, and truely care about the well-being of each other... and it works! These two, as friends, show us the side of Ben and Gregory that we hardly ever see. A tender and caring side...that is capable of male bonding! I hope in the future, it will continue!

BEST MYSTERY: Terror Island Killer
For months, fans were left believing that Ben could possibly be the Terror Island killer. Rumors ran rampant about the possibility of a twin... but no one knew for sure. It was the hardest adjustment for Ben fans to swallow...their romantic hero a killer? No one could believe it... but didn't it cross your mind a time or two that, wow, maybe it is Ben? Lucky for us, it was a twin... Derek!

BEST KEPT SECRET: Olivia and Cole's Affair
The show was only on the air for a few months when Olivia unknowingly slept with her daughter's boyfriend, Cole Deschanel. Now, two years later... it is still a secret. Caitlin and Gregory are still in the dark about Olivia and Cole's affair. Olivia even gave birth to a baby boy and still doesn't know who the father is (Cole or Gregory). The only person who has discovered this devastating secret is Annie. But she won't blow the lid because she could lose out the most due to her Trey kidnapping. Long story short... will this secret ever come out? Only the writers know for sure!

MOST BIZARRE PLOT DEVICE: Turkey Baster
Using a turkey baster to impregnate someone has got to be one of the worst storylines ever written on daytime television! The person who wrote it should be fired! For one thing, it wouldn't work, and second of all, it's rape! Need I say more?

COUPLE WITH THE LEAST CHEMISTRY: Cole and Caitlin
Now, I know there are quite a few Cole and Caitlin fans out there, but this couple is really lacking in the chemistry department. Cole is just way to hot for Cailtin. The moment I realized that was when Francesca Vargas entered the picture. That is when we saw true chemistry. Cole and Caitlin have way too many lies to make their romance work. They never share any real romantic scenes and constantly fight. Not what I would call a match made in heaven.

MOST MEMORABLE EPISODE: Mark's Murder On Terror Island
Who could forget the moment our beloved Mark Wolper was murdered on Terror Island? From the look on his face when Derek (who Mark thought was Ben) stabbed him, to the moment he gasped his last breath (and words..."Ben"), Nick Stabile shined! It was a sad day for all Sunset Beach fans who loved Mark! His murder is also what validated the terror island storyline. Killing off a Sunset Beach resident was a brave move for Sunset to take! A moment in Sunset history I won't soon forget!

BIGGEST WASTE OF TALENT: Peter Barton (Eddie Connors)
Everyone knows Peter Barton can act.! He was on the Young & Restless for years and is a very established daytime actor. So why did Sunset Beach hire him, only to never give him anything to do? What a waste of some great talent. Then, Sunset paired him with Kathleen Noone (Bette) and the two were very likeable -- but then they made him the final victim of Terror Island's Derek. All I can say is 'what a waste'!

WORST TREND: Characters Talking to Themselves
I absolutely hate when characters talk to themselves - and I know many other fans do as well. It's the worst Days of Our Lives rip-off that Sunset has done and I wish it would stop.

MOST SHOCKING STORYLINE TWIST: Gregory is Caitlin and Annie's Blackmailer
The Trey kidnapping storyline has gone on forever and it seemed no end was in sight.. until now. Gregory discovered the truth and is now blackmailing his beloved daughter and liar of a wife to reveal the truth. Who would have thought that Gregory would be the one to blow the lid. Shocker of the century.

BEST STORYLINE OF 1998: Shockwave
I thought nothing could top the terror and excitement of Sunset's Terror Island. I was wrong. Shockwave was an edge of your seat thriller -- all the way to the end!
