Sara Cummings is the younger sister of Sunset Beach's sweetheart, Meg Cummings. Sara felt as if she always live in the shadow of her "perfect" sister Meg, so she left Kansas for an internship in Washington D.C.. Little did Sara know, that would lead to many roads of turmoil...and to Casey Mitchum.

Along the lines of a Monica Lewinsky scandal. Sara was on the frontpage of every newspaper for allegedly having an affair with a married Congressman. Sara fled Washington and the press to head home to family in Sunset Beach. Thats when Casey Mitchum entered her life. He was the best friend to her sister Meg. Casey is Sunset's knight in shining armor. Always saving damel's in distress. So Sara was the perfect damsel for him. She denied ever having an affair with Congressman Blythe but the press was all over her. Through it all, her family and Casey believed her and stood by her. But Sara's conscience was too much for her and she ended up in the ocean trying to end it all. Casey saved her life. That's when she admitted having the affair. She finally admitted all of her lies. Casey listened and comforted her, never once judging her. Sara knew at that moment he was the kind of man she would like in her life. Casey stood by her as the press and Melinda Fall hounded her over a tape recorded conversation she had with Melinda was leaked to the press (by none of then Melinda). He even stood by her when she revealed the truth to her family.

THE BEGINNING OF ROMANCE

Casey and Sara boarded the S.S. Neptune's charity cruise hoping for a night of press-free relaxation. But Melinda Fall followed. She managed to drug Casey and Sara and take some suggestive photos of them for her book deal on Sara's affair with the Congressman. That's when tragedy struck and a tidal wave hit the ship capsizing it and sent Casey and Sara fighting for their lives. Casey and Sara made it off of the ship alive and ended up on a deserted island. There they shared their first kiss and Sara realized just how much she cares about Casey. Meg and Ben eventually rescued them from the island and sent them back to civilization... and more scandal. Melinda Fall "supposedly" died from a shark attack.. but shockingly, she only lost her leg in the attack and ended up back in Sunset Beach causing more chaos for Sara and Casey. Accusing them both of attempted murder. Big mistake for Melinda because Casey wasn't going to take that lying down. He and Sara concocted a plan which made Melinda confess all her dirty dealings on tape. They were finally home free from the Washington scandal and free to explore a relationship... or are they?

THE BEGINNING OF THE SARA/CASEY/MEG/BEN/MARIA STORY

Sara and Casey did in fact explore a relationship and began to fall deeper and deeper in love. In March of 1999, they consumated their relationship for the first time on the beach. They both confessed their love for each other, and nothing was standing in their way - or was there? Sara began to become increasingly involved in Meg's relationship with Ben. She was trying to keep Meg and Ben together so that her sister - who ran to Casey for that crying shoulder - would steer clear of Sara's relationship. Little did Sara know that her meddling would end up pushing Casey and Meg even closer. Sara began lying to Casey about things relating to Meg and Ben. Then Mr. Tim Truman caught on and made sure Casey found out. Now, Casey is steamed and headed right into the arms of Meg - whom Casey has always had feelings for. Casey has called it off with Sara and is in the mist of pursuing something further with Meg. Will it happen? Can Meg and Casey build a relationship?
