BEST TURNABOUT

(Issue 6/2/98)

With so many schemes swirling about in Annie's pretty head, it had to happen sooner or later. Yes, the manipulator extraordinaire finally got caught in a web of her own weaving. Hoping to get information on Cole's affair with Olivia, Annie tried to slip her Aunt Bette a little truth serum. But Annie learned to never try to bluff a bluffer, as Bette switched her tainted tea with Annie's, leaving the town troublemaker with an uncontrollable urge to try a new experience...like truth-telling! In the hilarious aftermath, Annie threw herself at Ben and asked Meg what it was like to be a boring goody-two-shoes. Perhaps worst of all, Annie found herself having to admit her original intentions to Bette! The scenes were deliciously funny and perfectly played out, showing once again the comedic abilities that have allowed Sarah Buxton to create a character we not only love to hate, but love to laugh at as well.

BEST CLIFFHANGER

(Issue 4/21/98)

When SUN came to the do-or-die point in it's serial murder storyline at which the real slayer was exposed, the show nearly killed viewers with delicious anticipation. By starting the revelation on a Friday episode, SUN perched it's audience on the edge of it's seats. It was a classic cliffhanger! Then, on Monday, the suspense mounted even more as Ben and twin brother Derek fought savagely. By the time Ben had manacled to the warehouse walls, fans nearly had to be chained up themselves. The excitement! The danger! The battle scenes were reminiscent of some biblical story of yore, in which evil and good clashed to the bitter end. But SUN did the Good Book one better by not having the conflict end there. The show's savvy writers didn't stop the story, but rather, started it down a new path, a torturous one in which Ben must spend his days in shackles, wondering whether his beloved Meg is safe, and knowing she's not!

MOST TRAUMATIC LOSS

(Issue 3/31/98)

In recent weeks, Lesley Anne-Down has put the opera back into soap with her portrayal of Olivia's grief upon learning of the "death" of her newborn. In one brief moment, Olivia learned that her chance to make up for the sins of her past had been taken away from her, and with an intensity bordering on the manic, Down took Olivia into the depths of every mother-to-be's hell - a feat all the more stunning in its achievement, considering that the actress is only weeks away from becoming a mother herself!

MOST HOTLY ANTICIPATED SCENE

(Issue 3/10/98)

Talk about anticipation making an event all the sweeter! Viewers have been waiting for Michael and Vanessa's first love-making session almost as anxiously as the couple themselves. And when the randy romantics finally hit the sheets, it was well worth the wait for all concerned. But what made this scene all the more interesting was Virginia's reaction upon learning that her rival finally had snared the lifeguard's body as well as his heart. As the couple created their own heat, Virginia's anger burned out of control, causing her to throw a picture of the happy couple across the room and use a few choice words to describe Michael's paramour of choice. Had Vanessa seen the look of outrage in Virginia's eyes, she might well have chosen to cower under the bed instead of cuddle in it!
