Donny Osmond got his start on The Andy Williams Show when he was just 5 years old. Now, he is an accomplished singer, songwriter, musician, actor, race car driver, and a father and husband. It is amazing how long he has been in showbusiness - how many entertainers can say they have been in the business for over 35 years and are still going strong? Granted, Donny has had his low times, but he has managed to stay on top. In 1963, Donny and his brothers starred in the movie The Seven Little Foys. After that, him and his brothers toured and made regular appearances on The Andy Williams Show. He is probably best remembered as a 1970's teen idol. When Donny was just 18 years old (his sister 16), Donny and Marie became the youngest stars to host their own show, the TV variety show appropriately named The Donny and Marie Show. The show ran for a successsful four years and made the name Osmond a household name world-wide. Donny and Marie also starred in the movie Goin' Coconuts in 1979, which was shot in the beautiful state of Hawaii. And it was here that Donny proposed to his wife, Debra Glenn. Donny and Debbie were married on May 8, 1978 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, and now have five sons: Donald Clark Osmond, Jr. b. July 31, 1979, Jeremy James Osmond b. June 8, 1981, Brandon Michael Osmond b. January 29, 1985, Christopher Glenn Osmond, b. December 12, 1990, and Joshua Davis Osmond b. February 16, 1998). His eldest son, Don, Jr., is currently serving a mission in England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After The Donny and Marie Show, the twosome went their seperate ways. Donny performed in a play called Little Johnny Jones, drove race cars in several celebrity races, and played the starring role of JOSEPH for six years in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, a Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical. He also had a top Bilboard hit song, Soldier of Love, in 1989. In 1997, Donny recorded two new albums: Christmas At Home, and Four. Christmas At Home is an eclectic ablum (as Donny described it) and Four has R&B flavor. These albums were available on QVC last fall and through Donny's Network (DOIN). This year, they were sold in Target stores at the holdiay season, Four being a bonus CD to Christmas At Home. So, what is Donny doing now? He is certainly keeping busy! He and Marie are back together on daytime TV on the Donny and Marie. Donny commutes from his home in Utah, to Los Angeles where the show is taped at Sony Studios. Donny and Marie made its debut on September 21, 1998, and recently found out they are renewed for the 1999/2000 season. Go Donny and Marie!! |
