J.C. Chasez Is True Blue!
Sixteen-year-old J.C. Chasez says the best parts about being a Mouseketeer  are the friendships he's made with the other MMC members and meeting the celebrity guest stars who appear on the show. "It's just incredible to meet  performers who are the nicest people in the world and are so down to earth," he says. As for the friendships he's made, his fellow Mouseketeers probably  value J.C.'s friendship because he lives by the rule, "treat people the way you  want to be treated." J.C. also loves all the dancing he gets to do on the MMC,  and he's part of a teen dance group that competes nationally. Home for J.C. isn't too far from the Mickey Mouse Club set in Orlando, Florida. J.C. and his family, which includes his mom and dad and his sister Heather and brother Tyler, live in Bowie, Maryland.  When his schedule allows, J.C. enjoys sports, movies and going to teen clubs with friends. He's also committed to the homeless issue and has dedicated his time to serving meals to the homeless

JC
the perfectionist
JC is a vision in red. Slumped in a seat on the bus, he's sporting a red shirt, a red Kangol cap and red, bloodshot eyes. Mr. Sleepy, as he's sometimes called by his bandmates, has just been roused from one of his many naps. But when the self-described "serious type" begins to talk about 'N SYNC - their success, their future and their work ethic - he couldn't be more awake. For him, the band is everything, which is something that the other fun-loving members of the group know
all to well.

"If we make a mistake on stage, I'm the one who says, 'Let's really work on that.' But that's because I see the potential of this group," says JC, 22. "You know, when it's on, it's so on, and once you see it, you want nothing else."

JC's just returned from a trip home to Baltimore, where he visited his family: mom Karen, a writer and editor; dad Roy, who networks White House computers; sister Heather, 20; and brother Tyler, 17. "When I go home, I unwind, eat some Maryland crab," he says. "Being with them makes me feel like I don't have to do anything."

Like the others, JC is girlfriendless. He does, however, have firm ideas of what he's looking for: "I like down-home good girls, ones with good morals. I like the girl who can be herself, and you're not going to find that with a lot of these show-business girls. There's nothing better than an honest, good-hearted person. That's where it's at: You treat people like you want to be treated. I figure if I stay simple and honest, I'll be lucky enough to meet someone like that." There's just one catch: He can't meet her anytime soon. "I went through a small phase in high school when I was girl crazy," confesses JC. "But now I've got a lot on my hands. I got this gig running me ragged, and this is what I'm focused on. It's one thing to have an album do well, but it's another to create a career. And that's going to come from nothing but hard work and dedication. I figure, 'Okay, I'll bury my personal life for a good three, four years.' You have to sacrifice, but tons of people do it."

JC's Grit-ty Tale

The "Tearin' Up My Heart" heartbreaker talks about his favorite four-legged pal from the past

Nothing is cute than watching JC Chasez's face light up when he reminisces about his childhood pet dog, Grits. Especially when this 22-year-old, who harmoniously joins Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Justin Timberlake on 'N SYNC's 1998 self-titled debut CD, illustrates how Grits, his sibs, Heather and Tyler, and he would frolic together in the snow back home in Washington D.C.

"Every year we used to go sledding in my backyard,"JC smiles. "We'd kick open the gate and we'd just run all the way up the hill and we'd just shoot right down. Sometimes Grits would get in the sled with us and sometimes he would just run down by us. One time, when we got to the bottom of the hill, he was just running so fast that he just ended up rolling."

As adorable as visualizing JC's furry friend rolling down a big snow-covered hill is, nothing tops the story of how he got his name."He was an all black dog, but right under his chin he had all white [hair]," JC explains, "so it looked like he had eaten a bowl of grits!"

friend 'til the end
Although JC spent most of his life growing alongside Grits, who passed on a couple years ago, the blue-eyed sweetheart has handled the loss like a trooper. "He was as old as I was," JC says of the lurcher, a rare breed. "Actually, he was born a year before I was. So he died when he was probably 20 years old, and that's pretty old for a dog."

That may be pretty old for a dog - 140 in people years! - but as any pet lover knows, your dog is never just a dog. Your pet is an extension of your family, like another brother or sister. The only difference is that your pooch never talks back to you (in human-speak, that is) and his nose is always wet.

That said, it's obvious no other dog in the world could ever take the place of Grits for JC. But given all the other types of dogs JC told BB that he can't wait to own and love, it's only a matter of time before a slew of new memories are to be had. "If I get a small dog, I'd get a Jack Russell terrier or something like a little pug," he shares. "But if I get a big dog, I'd probably get a boxer, but I wouldn't clip the ears. I like the floppy ears. Floppy-eared boxers are so cool."

It's too bad JC is so busy traveling around the world with the guys these days. He seems to be suffering from a severe case of puppy love!
