ATWT:WHERE THE OLD EPISODES ARE

There are not many surviving complete episodes of As the World Turns from before 1980. The relatively few such shows, however, that are known to exist can be found in one of these places: the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives, the Museum of Television and Radio in New York and Los Angeles, and the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago. I do not know exactly how many pre-1980 ATWT episodes that aren't immediately available in the Procter and Gamble Archives in Cincinnati are held instead in remote vaults, nor do I know how many such episodes CBS inadvertently kept when it wasn't supposed to.
