"Hey Dawson, wait up", Joey shouted racing across the school yard toward
Dawson.
Dawson eyed her, after all, it wasn't everyday she came up to him, "Hi, what's
up?".
"Oh nothing, I just haven't talked to you much lately...oh, yeah, um....would
you babysit Alex for me on Friday?" She said, with her eyes pleading.
How could he resist her. "Sure, what time, and why?"
Catching on to his hesitation she decided not to tell him that it was because
of her date with Jack. "Um...about eightesh and, well I have things to do.
I'll pay you if you need."
"Oh, no, you don't have to pay, its my pleasure", with a LARGE sarcastic note
in his voice. She ran off leaving him to his thoughts. That's all I need he
thought to himself. I get to babysit Hell mary's baby on a friday night, NO
CHARGE, what am I thinking. At that moment someone disrupted his thoughts by
tapping him on the shoulder.
"Ah...yeah...could you possibly help me find the principal's office? It
appears that I am late on my first day of school. And, well, your the only
one out here. Lucky me huh?" The girl behind the voice was so, well he could
only describe her as the most unique person he'd ever seen. She had long
blonde hair with bright green eyes. She was wearing what seemed to be patched
up pants, almost as if they'd been handmade with a vintage shirt. A duffle
bag is what appeared to be her bookbag. "Hello, anyone in there?" she tried
again.
"Yeah, my names Dawson Leery. Sure, I guess I was kinda dazed when you caught
me..."
"What, are you, a stoner?" She asked, almost in a mocking tone.
"No, no, just someone just asked me to do something, and I was trying to
figure out why i said yes." Wow, she is so strait forward, and honest. A
person worth getting to know. "Just follow me. I guess i have to go to the
office to get a note. Your name would be?"
"I knew i forgot something. My names Samara, but that's all i'll give you
about me for now, you have to earn anything else" She said with a wink.
They started the trek to the office and Dawson decided to find out more about
this girl. "So, Samara, where are you from?"
"Well, since you're walking me to the office, you earn some points. I am from
Virginia Beach, Virginia. Its a lot different from here. Can't you tell my
southern drawl?" Laughing, because obviously she had no southern accent.
Arriving to the office she departed without saying good bye. Leaving Dawson
dumbfounded in the absentee line.
"Name...name...hey kid, whats your name...hello"
"Oh...um...Dawson Leery."

"I'm telling you Pacey, this girl...she's so alive." Dawson was sitting at
the lunch table, giving his best friend the details of his encounter with the
new girl this morning.
"Well, my good man, its seems as if the clouds are leaving and your seeing the
sun. The tall blonde sun, huh?" He said patting his friend on the shoulder.
"And there, is my sun." He said nodding his head to Andie. "Off i go to meet
my sunshine," getting up and walking, turning slightly "tonight, just us
guys, movies? i'll bring the popcorn, you the entertainment"
"Sure, tonight...just us guys" Mumbling the last part under his breath. Just
then he saw Jen heading toward him. "Hey Jen, how's the party life?"
"Oh, you know, a cup of coffee and i am roaring to go" She replied in a very
meek, tired sounding voice, mustering only a tiny but of sarcasm. "So you met
that new girl yet...Samari, i think her name is."
"Its Samara, and yes. Have you?" He asked. Day dreaming, not for the first
time, about her.
Noticing the eagerness in his voice, "Yeah, she's in my second period class.
Real...whats the word...unique?"
"Yeah, thats her alright, hey I've got to head to the library to pick up a new
book on films, I'll see you later." Getting up, and throwing the majority of
his lunch away. He was too consumed by thoughts of Samara to eat.
"Yeah...sure...when i am alive"

"AHH!!! I am so frustrated with the limited help we have around here. B-E-S-
S-I-E!!!!!"
"God, is there a cow dying out here, or is my sister just throwing a temper
tantrum?" Joey's big sister stepped out of the Ice House's kitchen to answer
her sister's agonizing pleads. "Whats wrong now"
"We NEED to hire someone new, fast" And as if God was shining down on her, a
young girl came in with their newpaper classified article.
"Hello, my name is Samara, I really need a job, and it seems as if you need me
to need one. I guess this works out for all of us huh?" The girl standing at
the counter said.
Joey, almost dancing with joy replied before Bessie could "Yes, we would love
for you to work here, for almost nothing, but some lousy tips from drunkards.
You are my new best friend."
Bessie, almost to shocked to say anything, realized that this was HER job and
said, "Can you start tonight? Jack had to leave and well, we are certainly a
hand short. And as you can tell, my sister is dying for someone to help. so
your hired."
Samara smiled a very gracious, almost friendly smile and said "Sure, just, is
there a phone i can use to call my mom and tell her i'll be late?"
"Sure, right this way" Bessie lead her to the kitchen, leaving a very happy
Joey to a table full of drunken fishermen.

Dawson walked into the Ice House timidly. He didn't know whether or not Joey
was working. Since they broke up, things haven't been, well, peachy keen and
it wasn't his idea of a good time to run into her where Jack may be there too.
At that moment, in a bitter thought he saw Samara, waiting tables nonetheless.
"Hey, remember me?"
"Oh yeah, the ever so nice, but dazed and confused guy who lead me galantly to
the office this morning. Dawson, isn't it?" She said, smiling. Her smile, he
noticed, did not give away much about her.
"yeah, thats me, but not as dazed and confused this time. I am here to pick
up the Leery order. And...well...since its as good a moment as ever, to ask
you out."
What will happen? Will Samara say yes. And, will Joey get jealous and try to
fight her newfound co-worker for what she foolishly gave up.
