Roy Dupuis:

An Actor With Amazing Talent

The first time watching any great actor/actress is quite an experience. When I watched the television show “La Femme Nikita” for the first time, and saw Roy Dupuis play operative Michael, it was the most incredible experience that I have ever had. I felt a number of different emotions which I have never felt with any other good actor/actress. Roy Dupuis has a great talent as an actor. His acting ability evokes emotions such as happiness, sadness, laughter, and anger depending on what his character role is.

I have watched him play stone-faced operative Michael Sammuelle on “La Femme Nikita” every Sunday for the last year and a half. Each week, he keeps me enthralled with how strong an actor he really is. Each time I see him, I feel a sense of happiness. I enjoy watching him. This happiness is evoked with every movement he makes and every word that he speaks. He has the marvelous gift of making himself into the part that he is playing. He plays each character as if the character were him. The movements are smooth and are presented as if they had no planning behind them at all. The characters words roll off his tongue as if they were not scripted to him but flowing from him like water from a fountain. Seeing how fluid the words and movements are that come from him, is what brings me great joy!

Roy Dupuis is capable of evoking great sadness in his audience. As Michael on “La Femme Nikita”, he makes the viewers feel the sadness that the character feels but cannot show. From his actions, I get a feeling of sadness, as if his character was an actual person, for his situation. His character Michael is a covert operative who cannot show his feelings for the woman he loves, who is also a covert operative for the same organization, because if he did, they both would be killed. Michael lives in a very dark, lonely, and untouchable world. Roy uses his strong hands quite a bit to achieve this effect in the viewer. Because of his impeccable talent, each viewer can feel the character’s pain. I find his ability to invoke such strong emotions in his audience invigorating and refreshing.

In another role that Roy Dupuis has played, I experienced his effectiveness in enticing laughter out of the viewer. When he played Dominique Samson, in the French movie “J’en Suis”, he was hilarious. Of course reading the subtitles took away from his overall effect, he still made a strong impact on me. Watching this movie several times in a row, I found myself laughing so hard that I was literally crying. It took me quite a while to regain my composure. His character Dominique was in a very awkward situation that showed in his every movement, particularly with his strong hands and mannerisms. In addition, the look in his hazel-green eyes allows his audience to feel what the character is feeling. The way that he shows the awkward situation that Dominique is in is quite amusing. There are no words to describe how he does this. To be able to fully understand, one must watch the movie. Since not many actors/actresses are able to evoke much emotion in me, his ability to do so makes me admire his talent more with every time I see him portray a character.

When he played Oliva Dionne, the father of the Dionne quintuplets, in the television movie “Million Dollar Babies”, he invoked anger within myself and many other viewers. Since this movie was based on a true story, his portrayal of Oliva was as true to real life as the story line was. I could see in his eyes and his actions that he felt as if he was the character that he was playing.

As you can probably tell, each role that Roy Dupuis takes on, he plays with such feeling and charisma that it astounds me. He shows with his actions and in his eyes the characters’ feelings without having to say a word. I cannot imagine seeing anyone else play the characters that I have seen him play with the same flourish. He deserves many awards and numerous standing ovations for his hard work, perseverance, and dedication to playing a role so well.
