OUT OF THE FIRE
Angelusslayer
She had remained a secret to the slayeretts for almost two years. As Angel had said it was easier. But now she was forced to reveal herself. Angel had lost his soul. She knew it she had felt it. She loved them both. Angel and Angelus. She had known Angelus first. She was part vampire, Sired by the Master. She had been out alone one night and she had come upon the Master. Unfortunately he took a fancy to her and bit her. Just as he was beginning to force blood down her throat a slayer had stepped in. She had found the strength to crawl to an alley and collapse. The slayer had died that night. Looking back she could almost feel Angelus pick her up and carry her away. He must have tracked her somehow to that alley. She woke up underground with Angelus standing over her. He had poured something down her throat. She saw a dead boy lying next to her bed and realized it was blood. She had pulled away from Angelus and began to sob. Huddled in the corner of the bed, arms wrapped around her knees.
To her surprise Angelus has gently wrapped his arms around her and held her. He explained that she was a vampire. But something hadn't worked and she still had her soul. She could stand sunlight and crosses and holywater.
"I was so frightened and he was so kind in his own way." She thought smiling. She remembered The Master and Darla wanting to kill her. Surpisingly Angelus and stepped between them and convinced them to let her live. She was one of the few things that Angelus had actually cared about. They had a mental and emotional connection. They could feel each others emotions. They understood the other completely. He had taken care of her, forced her to feed. Strangely he never forced her to kill her victims.
Then came the curse. Angel was not the only one who had suffered that night, the gypsies had caught her and beaten her. They fled to America. Now the curse was broken and she and the Whistler were here to get him back..
Finally they arrived at the library. The Scooby gang were discussing their new enemy and how to get their old friend back.
Stepping into the light, Callista made her prescence known. "If you want Angel back, I know how"
The room turned in shock.
An hour later after explaining herself and the Whistler and clueing them in on the past, Callista was finally able to get down to business. "I found the cure. But this one is better than the Romani curse. This one is unbreakable."
"Well according to this," Giles said, "The spell must be placed by someone who loves both Angel AND Angelus."
"That would be me. I owe them both my life. I love them both. Thats why I can't do it alone." Callista explained. "This involves betraying one while helping the other. I need back-up. We also need to do this tomorrow on the full moon."
"Well" Xander said, "If we're going to get Dead Boy back we need a plan."
"I have one." Callista said a bit on the smug side. (She had heard ALL about our dear Xander from Angel.) "I'll find him tonight Knock him out and bring him back here. He won't hurt me so I should be able to keep him at bay till evening."
Finally Buffy found the strength to speak. "Lets do it. The sun sets in an hour."
Callista met her eyes in determination. "Ready."
It didn't take Callista long to find Angelus. She went straight to the cemetary. She had dressed for maximum effect as well. She had slightly curled her shoulder length strawberry blonde hair, wore a pair of tight fitting bell bottoms, with a black lowcut v-neck top and her favorite boots to match. She was afraid. Not of Angelus but of not being able to do what she had to. But she had found him and it was time to go.
"Angelus"
He turned and a delighted look crossed his face. "Callista!" He hugged her tightly and she hugged him back.
She looked into his eyes and there was nothing perverted or sick in his eyes just trust and love. "Angelus, please stop this."
"I'm sorry baby. I know this part was always hard on you. But just think of the damage we can do together."
Tears began to flow down Callistas face. "Angelus....I can't help you I'm sorry. If you try to hurt anyone I'll have to try to stop you." She looked in his eyes. "I'm so sorry Angelus. Please try to understand. I could never kill you. I...I just...."
Angelus pulled her close and held her. He stroked her hair and told her it would be all right. She felt guilt like you would never believe. She knew what she had to do. But could she find the strength to do it?
"Angelus...."
"Sshh now. I forgive you for not being able to help me and wanting to stop me. I never could hate you or stay mad at you very long. You know that." Angel pulled her closer and whispered in her ear, "Its all right, I forgive you." He then lifted her chin and pressed his lips to hers.
*Oh, God* She thought kissing him back. *How can I do this to him!* She opened her eyes and saw Buffy sneaking up with a club in her hands. Swiftly she hit Angelus over the head. But not quite hard enough, as Angelus started to turn Callista pulled him back to her and kissed him harder. But as she did her hand went for the pressure point in his neck. One that only vampires had. Applying just enough pressure, he collapsed in her arms.
She went to the ground holding him and sobbing. She rocked him in her arms. She just kept repeating the same thing over and over. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I love you Angelus." Xander and Oz came to carry him to the van. Buffy helped her to her feet and they followed the boys. Callista spent most of her time on the way back crying on either Buffys' or Willows shoulder. But she finally forced her emotions aside. It was time to get Angel back.
Callista placed a cross near Angel in the cage. It was enough to keep him asleep until tomorrow night. His hands and legs were bound with chains but they wanted to be careful. When it was time Callista removed the cross and carried Angelus out into the main part of the library. She removed the chains on his legs and stepped back. Then Giles chanted the spell for the force field.
No sooner than he finished did Angelus wake up. He got to his feet and tired to run but slammed into the force field. The sun set and the moon rose. Callista began the spell. Suddenly Angelus began to convulse and scream. The more Angelus screamed, the harder Callista cried. She hoped Angelus could somehow find the heart if not to forgive, then at least to understand. Sobbing, Callista finished the spell and went to hold Angelus and comfort him as much as she could until the end. The others were shocked as she walked straight through the force field. When Angel finally took over he fell to the ground, exhausted. She went to the floor with him.
"Giles remove the force field." Callista commanded. Giles did so.
Angel was on the floor curled into a ball. Slowly the convulsions ceased and Angel looked up. He saw the fear and hatred and his crimes came back in a rush. What killed him was the look of fear in Buffys eyes and the look of love in Callistas. He didn't deserve love and it killed him to think of how he hurt Buffy. Nauseated and shaken Angel began to hurl. Callista held him through it all. Begging him to calm down and telling him it would be all right.
"Easy now," she whispered into his ear, "just try to calm down. Please ." She held him stroking his hair, wrapping her arms around him and holding him as tightly as she could.
Slowly the nausea eased, but his tears continued to flow. The others had left to give them some peace. Only Angel, Callista, and Buffy remained. Callista pulled Angel back away from the mess while Buffy cleaned it up. Weak, confused, and in physical and emotional agony Angel leaned back into Callistas arms. She held him from behind and leaned his head back onto her shoulder. He closed his eyes and took a slow deep breath. (so to speak). "Callie....I.....just...."
"Sshh, I'm so sorry. Oh, Angel. I feel like I've been torn in two." Callista whispered. "I'm so glad to have you back. But....I love Angelus too. I've betrayed him."
Angel turned his head to look into her eyes. "Callie, he understands and he forgave you. You were the one good thing about him. He loves you as much as I."
Until now Buffy had remained silent. She understood they needed to speak first. Now she spoke up. "Angel.....how are you feeling?"
He opened his eyes and looked at her. "Honestly? I feel worse than shit." Then he gasped in pain and grabbed his side.
"Angel what is it?" Buffy demanded kneeling in front of him.
Angel was in too much pain to speak so Callista answered for him. "Its the curse." In response to Buffys' confused look she explained, "This happened the first time too. The replacement of the soul as is the taking away of a soul is a violent thing. He'll be sick and weak for days. We need to get him to someplace safe where he can rest and recover." She looked down at the person in her arms. He was unconcious. *Actually* Callista thought *its probably better. He won't be beating himself up for a little while at least* She looked back up at Buffy "Any suggestions on where to take him?"
"I don't know. We'll have to ask Giles." She walked to the door "Giles, guys come in here please."
The slayerettes filed into the room. They all had different reactions when they saw Angel lying unconcious on the floor. Willow felt pity and wanted to help. Xander was thoroughly enjoying himself. Callista looked up and saw the smile on his face. "Xander wipe that smile off you face before I do it for you." He looked at the dangerous fire in her eyes and did just that.
Cordielia had a look of pity mixed with relief that he couldn't hurt her. Giles didn't know what to think. This was the thing that killed Jenny. *No* he reminded himself *that was Angelus, this is Angel*
"What is it Buffy?" Giles asked.
"Callista said that Angel will sick and weak for a few days. We need to find someplace where he can rest."
"It has to be somewhere safe." Callista added. "Somewhere where the vampires or anyone won't look. Right now he's a sitting duck, an easy target, an easy kill."
"Darn," Xander quipped "Something might happen to Dead Boy. Oh, no."
Callista looked up with shock. She was stunned by his attitude towards Angel. She was about to go into overprotective mode when the Whistler walked in. "Kinda took ya long enough." She said smiling at him.
"I had an errand to run. I thought it would be longer until you called for us."
"Well it didn't and now we have a problem to solve. Where should we take Angel for safe keeping while he recovers?"
"Thats a tough one."
"Of course!" Giles exclaimed. "The club! The one Billy Fordam used for his vampire thing. It been deserted for months."
"Thats it. It's the right place I can feel it!" Callista approved the choice. She still held Angel in her arms. "We had better move him now. It will be easier with him asleep."
They called Oz and told him to bring his van. They put Angel inside and drove to the club. Quickly, because the sun was beginning to rise, they carried him inside. Then they carried in everything they would need to wait the next few days out. They would all stay together. They had food, cots, pillows and blankets. They had even brought a TV and VCR. Callista had remembered to bring all the Vampire sedatives she could find. It would be easier for Angel if he was kept drugged. She laid him on a cot she had set separate from the others. He would need quiet for the next few days.
