Tarnished Armor
Part 133
Adam’s study. Night.
Adam is sitting at his desk, writing in his journal. Junior’s box is no longer on the desk.
Liza comes in with her laptop.
Liza: Oh. I thought you weren’t --
Adam rises.
Adam: I can leave.
Liza: No, it’s your office.
Adam closes his journal.
Adam: I was just finishing up.
Liza: The book for Hayley?
Adam: No. No, this is my journal for Dr. Tolan.
Liza: And you would be keeping that because...
Adam: Because it’s better to know exactly who you are and what you’ve done in order to know what to do next, isn’t it?
Liza: Just as long as what you’re planning to do has nothing to do with me. May I see it?
Liza gestures to the journal.
Adam comes out from behind the desk and hands the journal to Liza.
Liza opens it and reads.
Liza: “You make promises and you break them. You bulldoze through people's dreams, and you plow through their feelings. And you don't care because you're right.”
Liza closes the journal and hands it back to Adam.
Liza: I was missing the qualifier.
Adam: I know. I don’t care because I think I’m right. Not because I’m right.
Adam goes to the door.
Liza: You loved her even when you thought she wasn’t yours.
Adam: Yes.
Liza: Why?
Adam: Because of who she is. And because ...
Adam turns to face Liza.
Adam: Because she’s your child.
Liza: And I loved you even when I thought she wasn’t yours.
Adam: I know. I thought I was right. I wasn’t.
Adam opens the door.
Liza: Adam?
Adam turns back to face her.
Liza: What time is it?
Adam doesn’t answer.
Liza goes over and takes his left arm. They both look at each other. Liza pulls his shirt sleeve up. The watch isn’t there.
Liza drops his arm.
Adam leaves.
