Tarnished Armor
Part 159
Adam’s study.
Liza and Adam are lying on the couch. A blanket is covering them, and the fireplace is lit.
Liza is looking at her bracelet.
Liza: You bought this for me on your first trip away from me and Colby.
Adam doesn’t answer.
Liza: So the box and the key... your memory. You have your memory back.
Adam: Yes.
Liza: When?
Adam: The past week. I don’t think there are any gaps left. You didn’t tell me that I won you in a poker game.
Liza: You won a chance, Adam. Just a chance.
Adam is silent for a moment.
Adam: Yes. That’s true. So. How long do I play the aggrieved husband for?
Liza reaches down and picks up her skirt. She begins to dress.
Adam: Liza?
Liza: This room isn’t really built for late night hijinks, is it? No robes handy.
Adam: I’ll make a note of that.
Liza finishes dressing. She doesn’t look at Adam.
Liza: I’m going to check on Colby.
Adam: All right.
Liza leaves the room, still not looking at Adam. Adam stares after her.

Chandler Mansion. The dining room.
Hayley, Adam and Liza sit around the table.
Hayley: Well. It’s pretty quiet here tonight. What’s going on?
Adam looks at Liza.
Liza: Your father seems to think he can’t trust me, Hayley.
Hayley: What?
Liza: We found out some new information today, but Adam believes that it’s only new to him.
Winifred comes into the room. The room falls silent.
Winifred: Will you be wanting anything else?
Adam: No, Winifred. That will be all. We’re done for the evening.
Winifred leaves.
Hayley: Dad?
Liza begins to work herself up to tears. Adam turns to her. He blinks.
Adam: You lied to me.
Adam sniffles.
Hayley: What’s going on?
Liza: It seems that there was a mistake made regarding my pregnancy. Colby wasn’t premature. She was late.
Hayley: What does that mean?
Liza: It means that Adam is her father.
Hayley: What?
Liza: And instead of embracing the idea, and being happy, your father has asked me for a divorce.
Hayley: What?
Adam stares at Liza.
Liza runs from the room.
Hayley: Dad?
Adam follows Liza out of the room.
