A Manifesto: TV 1999-2000
I thought that I would admit my own biases before I begin to review episodes. This is my true opinion of all the shows that I plan on reviewing. I hope you appreciate them. If you like what I have to say, don't like what I say, let me know
Ally McBeal I'm not yet sure what to expect from this show. I loved the first season and sort of like the second season.
Now that Greg is gone and I hear rumors that Ally is going to becom a wild girl, I get a little excited. Of course, the problem is that the producers
(yes, that means you, David Kelly) hasn't recognized that Lisa Nicole Carson is so much more than Renee. Let's give her some better story lines.
As for the Ally-Billy-Georgia thing, I say let's forget it. It's a plot that's run its course for at least a few months.
My favorite character is without a doubt the Biscuit. Oddly, I see myself in him above all the other characters.
As for "Ally" the half-hour version of this show. Basically, it was not worth a biscuit. The show just lacked the energy of its longer version.
For my Ally addiction, I'll wait until the season premiere in a couple of weeks.
Angel The first episode left a lot to desire. Too much Angel is, basically, too much Angel. His mysterious quality
disappears when we have to see it for a whole hour. The only spark in the show is Cordelia who lightens the mood and
adds energy in a way that no one else can. I just loved it when she figured out that the big businessman was a vampire. It was to die for.
As for my wishes, I wish that they would announce Faith's death on "Buffy" so that Cordelia can become the next slayer. Did you see her in the season finale...she did slay a vamp with
true slaying powers. And we know that she has the personality of a slayer and we know that Buffy claims to have once been just like Cordelia..now let's just make my wish come true.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer This show is phenomenal. Why it didn't get nominated for an emmy, I don't know.
The season premier didn't pick up until Xander appeared. His humor and his charm, plus the chemistry he has with Buffy is unparalleled.
Her roommate seems like a dud. As for Willow, I like her, but Oz just doesn't work for me. I realize that all the girls think he's cute, but to me
Oz is not cooler than cool and he lacks the wit of Xander. Let's keep in mind that Buffy is really a comedy packed with drama.
Dawson's Creek Can this show get any worse? Jen is the head cheerleader? Dawson almost gets laid?
I have no idea why the show has begun to suck, but my advice is for Joshua Jackson. Get off of this show
and go make "Mighty Ducks: D4." We can make Katie Holmes a cheerleader. This is something that would be worth watching. Even Magaly (who should spell her name
Magali) thinks "the show ain't worth crap!"
ER At the end of last season, I was upset at how sucky this show was, during the season premier, I revisited those feelings.
BUT this week's episode was phenomenal (with the exception of that whole melodramatic thing where Peter finds out Reese may not be his baby).
I liked the Carter-Rebecca De Mornay connection and I love the fact that Carrie is becoming a cold hearted bitch. As for Romano, he's just
amusing. I can't wait to see if Green quits. As for the new doctor, the Croatian one (luca?) he's a little to into himself, but he may work for
me. He really does look like George Clooney when Cooney still played Falconer on "Sisters." I'm still watching ER although
the show had better keep its fast pace.
Felicity I wonder why I watch this show. Oh Felicity! you cut your hair, I'm so excited. Oh Felicity! you used an advisee, I'm so troubled.
The show needs to decide what it's about and focus. The love triangle/pentagon (Noel-Elaine, Noel-Felicity, Ben-Felicity, Ben-Julie, Julie-Ben's roommate)
is just out there and the show no longer makes me all emotional. Felicity may soon be on my DNW list. DNW as in Do Not Watch!!
Frasier I watched the season premier and then forgot to watch the next two episodes...I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
Two seasons ago, I had to see every episode, now I don't. The last good episode was the Valentine's Day episode from last year.
Friends Monica and Chandler aside, this show is just OK. I realize that it's better than in years past, but it's not great by any means. Ross is just
pathetic and he needs a haircut. Stop making Ross so pathetic. Rachel needs to gain some weight and Phoebe and Joey need to stop being soooo stupid.
Other than that, I enjoy the show.
Law & Order The first two episodes left a lot to desire. The writing seemed to have declined, but after the show stopped its psychological profiling
of Green (who on the whole I like), the show picked up and returned to its top form this week in its third episode. Next week also promises to be a winner.
By the way, Jerry Orbach rocks!!
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit As gritty and enjoyable as the original. Its real and hard core. The storylines move me and I appreciate a full hour of
cops looking for the bad guy. Plus, how nice is it to have the return of Donald Cragen.
Once and Again This show won my heart over in a single episode and at the end of the second episode when the two of them had sex for the first time,
I was literally crying. It is THE BEST NEW SHOW OF THE SEASON without a doubt. Sela Ward is cuter than cute and Billy Campbell fits perfectly beside her.
And it's nice to see families that have functional and intelligent yet not wordy children. The kids have realistic fears and they convey them honestly.
The Practice The best show on TV, need I say more? I will. Why did Steve Harris not win an Emmy? He is the best actor on that show yet he is overlooked.
I love the way he portrays the guilt of a defense lawyer for doing a defense lawyer's work. I can't wait to see what David Kelly holds in store for me.
The Pretender Yes, I watch this show. Yes, I have a crush on Miss Parker. Yes, I want to see Jarod and Miss Parker hook up.
I love the politics of the Center and I think that Brutes is hilarious. If only we could stop Jarod's pez habit.
The Profiler I love this show all too much. I am so happy that the most beautiful woman on TV is coming to primetime TV. The only negative thing to this is no more Jack.
Providence I really like this show. It is pretty much like "Sisters" but it's not as good as "Sisters." The show does make me cry nonetheless
Roswell The show is fun and pretty enjoyable. The gang of five, with three aliens and two humans seems that it may be fun, but I need to see
a few more episodes to know exactly what this show is going to offer. By the way, I really don't like the cop. He's just ugly and an unnecessary character.
Snoops David Kelly has managed to fail. It's not that the show is bad, it's just that the show isn't all that great. You know, I don't get too bored watching the show,
but I know that life will go in if I miss an episode or two or three. Gina Gershon looks like a whore, but Paula Marshall and that woman who's name is something like Jai
are phenomenal. It's a good show to waste the hour between Felicity and The Practice.
SportsNight One of my favorite shows. It's fast-paced, funny and intelligent. The love stories are great. I like the Jeremy-Sabrina Lloyd thing and I like the Peter Krause-Felicity Huffman
thing. The guys have chemistry, and the topics delight me. If you're not watching this show you should be.
The West Wing I don't understand the appeal of this show. Once again, it's not that it's so bad, it's just not great.
I've met people who think it great, but I just don't find it great. It's not fast-paced enough and it's not intelligent enough. The drama
seems forced. I think the whole prostitute by accident thing followed by the reform thing is just lame. I haven't yet decided this or Roswell...
neither is to die for.
