Sean went to Surf Camp at the San Diego Surfing Academy. He met some nice people there and got to surf some although the conditions were not good for surfing. Here is his review on the San Diego Surf Academy. Let me reiterate that we highly recommend avoiding the San Diego Surfing Academy. It was basically one of the most unsafe and mismanaged trips we have encountered, and at a ridiculously expensive cost. Basically, the person who runs this just charges a fortune to people in order to subsidize his surfing habit. I cannot begin to describe what happened. Sean just about drowned there though and almost got thrown into rocks (which was VERY dangerous), all the while having Pat (the instructor) screaming at him to paddle when he should not have even put people in a place where there were large waves breaking against rocks and then leaving him to go off and surf when he couldn't make it out. He crawled up on the sand and threw up about 6 times before he could make it back to the camp. Another woman ended up throwing up under water and that is a horrible thing to have happen and completely avoidable if Pat would have paid even the slightest bit of attention or concern. All he did was terrorize the campers and try to force them into unsafe and potentially dangerous situations. I was terrified for Sean the entire time he was gone. Another problem was that they brought food for the camp and just left it at the campsite in coolers and by the 5th day, it was inedible (not that it was very edible to start). One of the women there was a caterer or something like that and she could not believe the unhealthy conditions. The Board of Health and whatever other government departments that cover a company like this really should shut them down. In the meantime, let me just say for any people who may be looking for information on this outfit, DO NOT GO TO THE SAN DIEGO SURFING ACADEMY! Royal Olympic cruises were incompetent, but this company was downright dangerous and a rip-off, in my opinion. Live and learn. Sean did enjoy what little surfing he got in.
