Always remembered by his #HawaiiHale Ohana

e ho'omaha me ka maluhia (rest in peace)

Aloha `oe, aloha `oe (until we meet again)

Maneo chose a special verse to be included in his service. It has been passed on to me to be included in this page.

AFTERGLOW

I'd like the memory of me
To be a happy one. I'd like
To leave an Afterglow of
Smiles when day is done
I'd like to leave an echo...
Whispering softly down the
Ways of happy times and
Laughing times and bright
And sunny days. I'd like
The tears of those who
Grieve to dry before the
Sun of happy memories
That I leave behind when
Day is done.

Below are tributes paid to Maneo by some of his IRC friends.  These tributes have been shared with his family, who wish to thank all who contributed. They have found comfort in your words.

GRIEF IS THE PRICE WE PAY FOR LOVE:

Dale.... I remember when he started the #Hawaiihale channel on IRC. A character that could brighten a bad day. I man with helpful advise to people he didn't know. An extended family to those who he'd never seen. The kind of person that when you mention his name would conjure happy thoughts. He was a rascal when you wanted one, and a good friend when you needed one. I pray that all who think of him don't cry for him, but remember the wonderful experience you had for just knowing him. I'm sure he'd want it that way. Maneo you were cherished around the world, and will live on in many hearts. Aloha my friend.

I just arrived home today Sept.5th from vacation to hear such shocking news about my dear friend Maneo.I will miss him so much. When I first got my computer and went to the chat rooms for the first time, I went right to Hawaiihale and Maneo welcomed me to the channel. I did not know how to operate the computer at all or even how to talk to others on the channel. He took time out for me and taught me so much about operating the computer and IRC. I am so glad that I was able to meet Maneo. He truly was a wonderful person. He will be greatly missed.

I was never lucky enough to meet Maneo in person and had hoped to do so sometime in the near future. He was a genuine friend and a wonderful person. My heart stopped for a minute when I got Ladykiwi's email the day I was leaving for vacation !! We all have lost a wonderful friend but his memory will live on with us in the Hale forever !! A hui Hou Maneo !!!

I don't even know what to think about this. Maneo was such a big help to all of us. I grieve for us and all the newcomers to ever enter the 'hale who will never get to meet or be inspired by one of the greatest people to ever grace IRC or undernet or the World Wide Web in general. May you memory always be a glorious one and may we have the strength to remain a family without you.

Well I don't even know where to start or what to say. I just talk to you a few weeks ago on the phone and you said everything was going great with your treatment. I have to say I'm shocked. I was told that Ladykiwi was looking for me so I came in the channel and there it was... the topic. I can't seem to stop crying.. I will miss you so much. Just like everyone has started so far...the late nights...the long talks...the laughts..the crying..WE have done. Even tho our talks had become fewer over the last few months. I will miss them dearly. If it was not for you Dale, I would not be where I am today. You made me follow my dreams of going back to school. I have wanted to be come a paramedic for as long as I can remember. You told me I can do it...and I am doing it. Everyday I wake up hearing your words...Rachael the only way you ever going to do it is to get off ya ASS and do it...haha. I know I have told you this before. I love you with all my heart and always will. God has put you in my life for a reason..and I guess it was just your time to go my dear friend. I would say some really great hawaiian phrase but as you know I can't learn hawaiian to save my life. heheh so many long nights of trying to explain it to me..haha. but you know me...I just can't seem to make it stick. So many laughs with that. Well I guess I will end this with the only two words I have seem to beable to learn....and the two most important as it seems....Aloha and Mahalo for everything... my dearest freind DALE. I will remember you everyday of my live. I will finely meet you some day....please pull me in them grates...I'm sure I will need ya help once again for that :) Rest in peace my dearest friend...and Remember I will always love you!!!!!!!

Words are so hard to find at times like this. Maneo will be sadly missed by all, but he has left us much to remember him by. In particular the #HawaiiHale channel and webpage which were both created by him. It was his wish that these should continue and for that we thank him. The power of Maneo was too strong for him to ever be forgotten by the people he touched. Rest well old friend. Mahalo nui loa for all of have taught me, and the trust you have put in me. Aloha oe ………. I would like to share a humorous memory with you all.
Four years ago, my husband Bob and myself took a trip to Hawaii, Canada and the US Mainland. Maneo took 10 days off work so that he could show us the sites in his area, of which we saw many. He also reckoned that to experience the US you just HAD go to a ball game and that you had never tasted a hotdog unless you had eaten one at a ball game. It was obvious that there was no way we were going to leave his area without doing these things. He already had the tickets by the time we arrived. The game was between the Orioles and the New York Mets and it was held at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
Hmmmm…. I don’t know whether I ever told Maneo that I didn’t really understand this game at all. I kept getting it confused with Cricket, which probably most of you people in the USA understand as much about as I do Baseball. :) Anyway it was a fun night and the hotdog was as delicious as Maneo had stated. I believe they used a special seasoning called ‘atmosphere’ in it, because I couldn’t see any difference between that hotdog and any other I had tasted, but it sure was tasted different.
After the hotdogs, Bob went to buy some coke and on arriving back to where Maneo and myself were, he tripped or something, upending the containers of coke all over himself and Maneo. What a site they were and sticky to boot. Hahaha They eventually dried out but both were very keen to quickly shower on arrival home.
This is but one of numerous happy memories I will treasure forever.

Uncle Maneo, you will definitely be missed by so many people around the world...especially me. Thanks for everything you've done, all the late night chats and advice you have given me...though at times I never listened you were always there to help. Wish I could've said goodbye, wish I could've said thank you for everything. You've been a big part of my life and have touched so many lives on this earth. Cut a little hole for me at the pearly gates...I'm gonna have to sneek in! All my love! Aloha Maneo!

I know you know that you are loved and missed by me and the rest of your ohana. Rest well my friend. At least now there is no more pain. I'll see you and Makoa when I get there. :)

I hardly knew him, but the times i heard him speak, counted as years. He had a way with words, he was kind and always had a good advice for everybody. He as the soul of this channel and he was missed since the moment he has decided to stay off IRC. We will miss you, Maneo. May God rest your soul.

What can I say about the man known to all as Maneo? Well, even though him and I didn't see eye to eye on a lot of subjects, he was always there with an open heart, and an ear to chew on. He was one of the best webmasters I've known. We shared a lot of late nights scripting and talking about the islands. He will be missed my me that's for sure. Maneo, I'll plant a Koa tree for you there buddy. Take it easy up there, and save me place. I'll miss you dearly.

A towering mahalo and fond farewell to Maneo. Truly you have written the vision (#Hawaiihale)and it does not tarry. You have left us a gift of preservation that keeps on giving, "aloha" is reaching distant shores.
To your family, we say, thank you for sharing Maneo. To the #Hawaiihale ohana, we say, grasp the vision and run with it (holo imua)!

Before #Hawaiihale, there was #Hawaii, Maneo of course was one of those who warmly welcomed me to the channel. He was like a father to me, something to the effect of "I gotta give you lickens cause I love you" kind of thing. I will miss his humor, his laughter, his jokes, his insights. How lucky I was to have Maneo as a friend. You will be greatly missed!

We used to play and laugh a lot on the hale, I even called him "my favorite Pervert" just to tease and spice up conversations...We both got the Kiwi's frypan but anyway, Joy and Laughter was always at the rendez-vous when he came in the Hale.  Aurevoir Maneo, you will be not forgotten!

Maneo, will be truly missed.  He was so much fun to know and was so loving and kind.  I just loved his sense of humor.   I feel truly blessed that I was able to meet him in person and know he was truly a genuine person. I am so saddend to know his gone now but he made such an impact on all of us.  I hope he is at peace now.  I just want his family...even his Hale family to know that this was a truly great man.  But yet I think we all know that.  With much love and Aloha,

Hawaiihale has been a wonderful gathering place and its creator will be sorely missed. My only contact with Maneo was through e-mails back and forth discussing web page puzzles and their solution! But, he formed the focal point of channel and webpage and brought so many, many wonderful people together.

Snrklboy from San Diego

Sorry to see you going to another life.
Yet, you left a lot behind, to be remembered by for a long time. I hope you get a lot of laughs when you look down on us in the Hale. Take care up there and start another Hale, perhaps we can connect.  ciao
