SUMMARY:

I have fifteen years experience as a programmer using Progress 4GL and Progress RDBMS in UNIX and Windows environments.  I have experience in manufacturing, distribution, insurance and mortgage environments.  I have experience working with the following Progress 4GL based ERP packages:  SX.enterprise, Trend, WDSII, FDM4, NxTrend, MXP, Varnet and Lakewood.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

I earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh (1989) with an emphasis in accounting, I have two bachelor degrees:  a BS in computer science (1985) and a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology (1984), both earned at Point Park College in Pittsburgh.  The American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) certified me in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) in 1992.

2006-2007            Home Depot Inc. / HD Supply  Orlando Florida    Progress Programmer/Analyst and Conversion Programmer

Assisted in converting legacy applications to SX.enterprise.  Modified transaction processing in both GUI and character versions of SX.enterprise.  Wrote and modified custom reports using SX.enterprise standards. Assisted in upgrading SX.enterprise from version 4.0.067 to version 5.1.002.  Followed ITIL Service Management Practice.  Wrote testing instructions, installation instructions and worked with users to develop more detailed modification specifications.  Assisted in upgrade from PROGRESS Version 9.1D09 to OpenEdge Release 10.0B05.

 

2005-2006            Irwin Mortgage Corp.  Fishers, Indiana    Progress Programmer/Analyst

Modified Lakewood Loan Origination System to add Prepayment Penalty Plans using Progress 9.1E.   Wrote complex Technical Design Specifications in an SDLC environment.  Modified application programs (screens) for Lakewood package.  Irwin Mortgage is in both the retail and wholesale mortgage businesses.

 

2004-2005                  Woods Equipment Company / Tisco Division Roseville, Minnesota  Senior Programmer/Analyst

                                Wrote data entry, reports and transaction processing Progress programs using Progress 9.1D ChUI that was integrated into the WDSII ERP package.  Converted Microsoft Access applications to Progress.  Developed Progress based Data Cube.  Developed GUI programs to replace Microsoft Excel applications using ADM2, Provision 9.1E, and Windows 2000 including updateable browses, exception reports and thumbnail images.  Performed DBA functions of 46 gigabyte database by maintaining “Warm Spare” database using application of after-image files.  Worked with warehouse personnel to develop new backorder processing.  Reported to management with weekly written status reports.   Tisco Division is primarily a wholesale distributor of tractor parts with light manufacturing (mostly kitting work orders).

Wrote data cleansing programs for Data Warehouse project using Progress 4GL version 9.1C.  Wrote Business and Technical Design Specifications in an SDLC environment.  Modified application programs for Lakewood package.  

 

2002-2003            Midwest Casualty Insurance / Tri-State Ltd.  Spearfish, South Dakota Progress Programmer

Developed extensive statistical analysis reports using Progress 4GL that provided top management with decision-making information.  Assisted in conversion of Progress-based insurance package to another custom system.  Company provides automobile insurance in four states.  Proprietary insurance package.

 

2001-2002            Memphis Lamp Inc. / LightBulbDepot.com Memphis, Tennessee Senior Progress Programmer and Systems Analyst Manager

                                Debugged and made extensive modifications to various Progress based FDM4 and custom applications, performed database administration, assisted in platform migration and upgrade of Progress version 8.2 to 9.1, AIX Administration.  Assisted users in overcoming system problems, performing inventory, etc.  Created links between shopping cart web page and FDM4 Inventory and Order Entry Systems.   Company is retail and wholesale distributor with no manufacturing.  Company has since moved to Jacksonville, FL.

1997-2000            Independent Progress Consultant working in Texas, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Missouri.  Details as follows:

1999-2000            Huttig Building Products Chesterfield, Missouri (6 month contract)

                                Created Progress based data conversion databases and utilities for Huttig to convert open sales orders and purchase orders from a BBx based system to Trend (NxTrend).  Assisted in the conversion of several warehouse locations.  Made minor modifications to Trend in the Sales Order System and developed custom reports using Progress 4GL.   Huttig is a manufacturing and distribution company.

1999                       Johnson and Johnson Ortho-Diagnostics Division, Rochester, New York (3 month contract) Assisted in the upgrade from MXP 8.1a to MXP 8.1d for Y2K purposes.   Created enhancements within the MXP Service Order System as directed by the Business Analyst using Progress 4GL version 8.1.  J and J is a manufacturing and distribution corporation

1998-1999            GAF Building Materials Wayne, New Jersey (10 and 1 month contracts)

                                Enhanced Powertools/Hypertools to allow greater control of user access to the Progress databases.   Modified various Progress 4GL browses and reports.  Wrote data conversion utilities using Progress 4GL to allow cut-over from a DEC BASIC system to Varnet/MXP.  Developed Progress based EDI interfaces to and from Gentran package.  GAF is a manufacturing corporation.

 

1998                       Danka Business Systems, St. Petersburg, Florida (3 month contract)

                                Developed specifications for and then developed inquires, reports and transaction processing modifications for Varnet/MXP.  All work performed using Progress 4GL.

                                Danka sells and services office equipment such as copy machines.

1997-1998            Phoenix Energy Services, Greenville, Texas (6 month contract)

                                Developed a new inventory transfer system that included data entries, transactions, inquiries, help screens and reports for Varnet.  This system directly tied into the Varnet Inventory Control System. Rewrote the bill-of-materials cost roll-up to their specifications.  These projects were done using Progress 4GL version 7.3.  Phoenix Energy is no longer an active business, but manufactured drilling bits for the oil industry.

 

1997                       Briggs Weaver, Dallas, Texas (3 month contract)

                                Rewrote and analyzed a large number of programs that had been developed by a junior programmer using Progress 4GL to allow a version upgrade to the Trend (NxTrend) package.  Briggs Weaver was a retail and wholesale distribution operation and was subsequently merged into Sammons Distribution.

1994-1997            Hensley Industries, Dallas, Texas Senior Progress Programmer

Completed conversion from legacy system to Varnet in O/P, A/R, and Production Control.  Developed enhancements to Varnet Purchasing, A/P and MRP.  Customized Financial Statements.  Converted Varnet system to Progress 7.3 and MXP Hypertools 7.2a.  Wrote extensions to Hypertools. Corrected record locking problems in MXP applications.  Tuned Progress and UNIX parameters.  Developed new report macros and Production Scheduling System.  Rewrote Picking Slip Generation, Invoicing, and Direct Billing modules.   Hensley manufactures excavation and loading buckets as well as the excavation “teeth” for the bucket.

 

1993                       Brake Parts, McHenry Illinois Programmer/ Analyst

Worked with team of programmer / analysts to implement electronic “KANBAN” system on the shop floor.  Customized and simplified Varnet receiving function.  Progress 6.2.  Brake Parts was acquired by Dana Corp and manufactures automobile brake parts including the Raybestos product line.

 

1989-1993                  Heat and Control, Hayward California  Data Processing Manager

Directed and participated in maintenance and enhancement of legacy system.  Selected Progress 6.2 and Varnet as replacement.  I performed all system analysis required to modify and install Varnet to completely replace the legacy system.  I learned to use Progress to generate customized reports, modify data entry screens, make schema changes, avoid record locking problems, etc.  I also handled installation and maintenance of PC systems.  Heat and Control is a manufacturing company that makes cooking and packaging equipment for the snack food industry.
