sa15.bmp (512370 bytes) This is the famous Cape Town waterfront -- the most visited tourist attraction in all of Africa. Note the Planet Hollywood in the foreground. It was recently rebuilt after having been blown up with a bomb.
These are new gas pumps made to look antique, but I don't think gas pumps ever looked quite like that. I like to call this look "faux retro". sa16.bmp (184554 bytes)

This is painted on a wall outside of a backpackers' place where I stayed. Dolphins do not really go there.
There are many townships outside of Cape Town. From what I could see, it looks like conditions in such places have improved a lot in the last 10 years. sa18.bmp (541334 bytes)
sa10.bmp (376910 bytes) Old apartheid signs are now museum pieces. I think the white South Africans try to give the impression that apartheid occurred much farther back in time than it did.
