ABOUT THE TOWN

Burford, Ontario

Located on Highway 53, just west of Brantford and just east of Woodstock, Burford is a small town of just under 2000 residents.

Pictured here is Ontario. Burford is roughly inbetween Lake Ontario to the right and Lake Huron to the left.

This is Brant County. Burford Township covers the western end of the County. The town is situated just below and west of Paris and almost directly 15 kilometers west of Brantford.

Notable attractions include the Flea Market - which attracts 10,000 Southern Ontarians to the town for a day filled with cheap buys - the Fair - which brings in people from all around the area for the rides, crafts, and shows that Burford has to offer - and hockey season - where the Bulldogs really show they are the pride of Burford.

Burford is a very close knit community and efforts to further unify the town are already in progress. The High School, in particular, has been attempting to develop weather reading and posting capabilities that could benefit the hundreds of local farmers who depend on predictable weather for their crops. With funding now having been made available to the school, they have purchased a weather tower with many unique weather reading capabilities. They expect that in the short future this information should be available on-line and through the school.

As you've probably already figured, Burford is a very rural-oriented community. Prodominent crops include tobacco, ginseng, and corn. There are also a hand-full of local farmers who are experimenting with growing hemp.

Academically Burford has 4 schools. Maple Avenue School, located at 6 Maple Ave. N., teaches children from kindergarten to grade 3. Coronation School, located at 26 Park St., teaches children from grade 4 to grade 8. Burford District High School, located at 35 Alexander St., has an enrollment of 350 students. And Blessed Sacrement is the town's Catholic school teaching up to high school level.
