Oasis Swamp Gardens

Home to Southern Rock
In the Oasis Swamp Gardens, we can appreciate the best the south has to offer. In this case it is southern rock. When discussing this subject, two bands immediately come to mind, and therefore are featured at the Swamp Gardens. They are Creedence Clearwater Revival and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

For those of you who don't recognize this scraggly bunch, this is Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR). They "revived" much of the down home feeling that was being lost in the popular music of the late 60's and early 70's. The lead singer/guitarist was John Fogerty. His brother Tom was also in the band and provided background vocals and guitar. The drummer was Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, and the bassist was Stu Cook.

Creedence had many popular songs that my friends and I still listen to today. Among my favorites are "Fortunate Son," "Down on the Corner," "Up Around The Bend," "Green River," and "Keep on Chooglin'."

That logo means only one thing, Lynyrd Skynyrd! Skynyrd was a hell of a group in its heyday. Unfortunately, many unfortunate deaths struck the band, subtracting crucial members such as lead vocalist Ronnie VanZant. It was a huge loss to music...Skynyrd still exists today, but just is not the same. Here is the band in all its glory:

And yes, if you were wondering, Skynyrd is responsible for "Freebird," the most played song I've ever heard. It is also one of the longest, with some tracks extending into the neighborhood of 15 minutes! I guess the length alone can make "Freebird" kind of annoying. I prefer "Sweet Home Alabama," and "Workin' for MCA."
