Antiques & Collectibles

Just being old does not make something particularly valuable. Value is usually determined by supply, demand, and condition. The price that you see an item selling for in an antique shop is generally 2 - 4 times more than what they could pay you for the same item in the same condition. Remember the dealer buys it, cleans it, stores it, and may never sell it for the price they should get for it. The condition of an item is very important. Just because it is the same item it is not necessarily in the same condition. A crack or chip or missing pieces may make an item worthless. Check when you buy to be sure that the item is in the best condition that you can afford.

I collect.....

  • Roseville Pottery - My collecting has slowed on this collection, started by my Mother. I cannot afford it. (Unless I found a price I couldn't resist.) Prices on Roseville seem to continue to climb. No wonder, you just have to touch it to fall in love with it.

  • Wall Pockets - This is one of my newer passions and it is much easier to display than the others. I actually use some of them to start "spider plants". I think since many Wall Pockets are still affordable and so varied they are destined to become one of the more popular collectibles. One of these days I hope to add a Roseville Wall Pocket to my two collections.

  • Crackle Glass - It was acquired for resale and now I can't part with it! My daughter, Jessica, just sent me a footed vase that is chocolate/amethyth and beautiful. Thanks Jessica!

  • Bulldog "everything" - When we acquired our first real Bulldog in 1978, we were hooked for life and anything that reminds us of them we collect. I say we on this one because it is as much my husband's collection as mine. In fact, I believe I said I was no longer collecting Bulldog items two years ago. Now, I buy them for Harv!

  • Orange Poppy by Hall - Nanny's coffeepot unearthed in my Dad's basement started this. I have maintained an orange kitchen since 1968 so when I discovered the Orange Poppy I was hooked. (My first kitchen in California had huge orange poppy wallpaper and orange burlap curtains!) Most of my collection is in less than perfect condition, but I love it anyway.
