South African Flag Grant's Home Page American Flag
My name is Grant and I have created this web page in the hope that it will help people who are in the process of legally emigrating to the USA.

I have come to the USA from South Africa on a K1 Visa, which is the fiancé(e) visa. The visa allows a person to enter the United Sates as a non-immigrant, provided the person legally marries a US citzen within 90 days of entry. After the wedding the person then changes status to an immigrant. After 2 years of legitimate marriage the person then files for permanent residency.

Although things have (so far) gone very smoothly, we have found the whole process a huge paper chase; with lots of running around and collecting documents, statements, medical records and lots of other things. The process itself is very much easier than some of the other visa's which are available, but it is necessary to have all your things together, and to know what you need in order to reduce the time that it takes to be reunited with your loved one.

I hope this infornation helps.

THANKS

I would like to thank a few people who have helped us along the way.....

The people at Match.com for bringing my wife and I together in the first place.

The staff at both the Durban and Johanesburg branches of the American Consulate, who, despite what you may have read about consular officials, provided a very streamlined and efficient service and were always extremely helpful and attentive to my queries.

Ryan at Club Travel in CapeTown. He provided an excellent service in supplying my (very inexpensive) plane tickets to the US - even when I changed the dates about five times.
