Cancun Web Site Draws Crowd By Gina Hernandez Cancun - The Miami Herald Sunday, February 8, 1998 International Satellite Edition
The Internet is one of this decade’s fastest growing tools of business, leisure and communications. Anybody who has used the “net” can tell you that it is quite addictive.
From chat rooms to home pages to intricate web sites, the net has opened up worlds that for many would not be possible without the use of computers.
Monday night a group of international Cancun web site chatters got together at a small deli near the Coral Beach hotel to get to know each other face-to-face, and deliberate some of the interesting topics of Cancun.
The group was missing a few of the regular chatters, who were probably enjoying the last few warm rays before sunset.
The group meeting at the deli was a hodgepodge of personalities and people from different places from the United States, all of which have one common denominator - they chat with each other on the Internet.
Their favorite Cancun chat site is one created right here in Cancun by Rich and Michelle Herrin. The two decided to move to Cancun over a year ago, and while wanting to relax during their retirement, felt that they should do more than just lay around on the beach.
That is where their Cancun site began. The two enjoy keeping up the Cancun page and filling it with interesting facts, hundreds of breathtaking photos, and E-mailing and talking with anybody who wishes to prattle about Cancun or the vicinity.
“We’ve all become friends, we E-mail each other back and forth,” stated Tim Sissel, a regular to the web site.
All present at the get-together agreed that the site run by Rich and Michelle is by far one of the best available on Cancun.
“We don’t make any money from this,” stated Rich.
“We started it as a hobby. The great thing about it is the fact that we get to meet a lot of great people.”
The two also commented that anybody wishing to put their business on the web site may do so for the site’s business index.
In the forecast, the two plan to have restaurant surveys and other innovative creations for those just returning from Cancun, to help anybody who may be a “rookie” Cancun vacationer, or maybe somebody who hasn’t visited the beach paradise for a few years.

Happy surfin’!
The above article was quoted as written with the exception that a few misspelled words were corrected. I don’t know how we missed getting the paper, but we did. Don was kind enough to mail us a copy which took a little time to get here. Sorry for the delay in posting, but I guess late is better than never. The accompanying picture in the paper was of such poor quality, we elected not to post it. Also, for your info, the article stated we retired here. That’s correct, but we aren’t “old foggies”.....I retired from the U.S. Air Force at a very young 46 after serving 26 years. Michelle was all of 33 years of age when I retired. This clarification is for the record so the younger generation using the site won’t think we are too old to understand them.
