The inuksuk, shown here, is a stone figure with many different uses, including marking a good fishing spot, marking a nearby town, of just a friendly symbol telling you that others have been here before you. Once you wander away from the town or campsite or people you're with, you understand what they're all about. It can get pretty lonely out there, and you might (mistakenly) feel that you're on virgin territory without the inuksuk to set you straight. Inuksuk, pronounced "ee-nook-shook", means like a man/inuk. (Inuk is the singular form of Inuit.) |
