Dodge City, Kansas

When my dad was with a different company, we used to spend a lot of time in Dodge City, KS. It was always my favorite place to go. In fact, often times I didn't mind going places I don't like, as long as I had Dodge City to look forward to.

We hauled a lot of beef with that company and Dodge City has two major places to haul beef out of.

Dodge City also has my favorite truck stop. It's the cleanest and most delightful one I've ever been to. I guess that sounds odd, but it's always nice to spend a little lay-over time (that's when you sit in one place for a day or the days it takes them to load your trailor) in a truck stop you don't mind being at.

Generally when a place is loading your trailor with beef, you drop the trailor in their yard and bobtail (that means drive the tractor without the trailor attached) over to a truck stop or sometimes a special lot the beef place has and sit there and wait the many, grueling hours it takes for them to load your trailor.

So, here we are in Dodge City, KS and we can bobtail around town while we wait. It's much easier to get around town in a truck without a trailor, trust me.

So we decide to visit the Boothill Museum. That was my favorite part! It was interesting and fun to learn about all those famous cowboys that were in Dodge City. I also noticed quite a few interesting street names.

One of the many times we sat in Dodge City, we went around to the stores and to the mall(s) etc etc etc. It was close to Christmas one day when I decided I wanted to see the regular town (you know, the part every town has, where, depending on what part of the US you're in, there's little family owned stores or whatever like craft stores...antiques etc). I found it completely delightful!

I like Dodge City so much, I often think about actually living there (for a while, before I move to California, which I plan to do after college). It always helps when you find a place you love and you know your way around it so well, you could give a tour of the city blindfolded!

I'd like to share Dodge City with you. Because there are so many sites on the internet about it and the information varies, below are links to sites about Dodge City. Enjoy!
