Pamukkale

This incredible natural phenomenom is formed by the hot spring waters leaving it's deposits on platforms as it cascades down the hillside towards the town of Pamukkale. The spring water - a mixture of carbondioxide (CO2) and calcium (Ca) - causes these incredible travertines to be formed. Many believe the waters have the ability to heal skin diseases, due it's mineral content. When I was last there in 1996 the Tourism Department were considering closing the site for a number of years to allow the regeneration of Pamukkale. It has become quite dirty and discoloured due to the number of tourists visiting and abusing the site over the years.
