GUATEMALA THE LAND OF BEAUTY
LA AURORA - GUATEMALA'S ZOO
Excellent for the Kids

If the kids are coming with you on the trip, then La Aurora is a must for them.  The Zoo is so well maintained that it actually rivals any zoo anywhere. Out in Zona 13 in the southern part of the city are the airport and the attractions of Aurora Park. Aurora Park on Boulevard Liberacion is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon. along the northern rim of the park are the remains of a colonial aqueduct. The park entrance is marked by a huge statue of Tecun Uman, the national hero of Guatemala who was slain in single combat with the Spanish conqueror Pedro de Alvarado. Just inside the entrance and to the left is the zoo, which features lions, leopards, crocodiles, monkeys, peccaries, jaguars, panthers, snakes, alligators, iguanas, elephants, and roving photographers. Out in the back are rides for the kids. One section, to the left of the main entrance, features wildlife of the Peten, including raccoons, coatis, agoutis, pheasants, jaguarundis and tepezcuintles (pacas, or gibnuts).

To us Chapines a trip back to Guatemala would not be complete  without eating in a "Comedor"  As long as you can see where the fire is and what's cooking on it, you will be fine, just drink "Aguas" and you'll be okay.

Click here to learn a few very common phrases used in Guatemala

Many "Comedores" are open to the public inside the installations, the owners will approach you and offer their dish of the day and invite you to sit and enjoy their typical dishes.
