HOME    TIMOR COVER     INTRODUCTION    FIELD REPORT    PHOTO ESSAY

These pictures were given to me by members of the Democratic Students Committee of Timor.  I was invited to attend one of their meetings.  They were keen to learn about my investigations.  They were also keen to tell me their observations and eyewitness accounts of the military's assaults on Timorese agriculture.  In the end they gave me some pictures from the killings in Suai - the killings I had read about while flying into Dili my first day.

There are two similarities in these victims - all shot through their right knee and their throats have been slit.  I have no idea if this is the trademark of a particular group.  I did not have time to ask such questions.
