: MBR Companion Resident. GoldBug is a volatile complex
virus, made in USA. Virus was originally released in a Pirated Doom2 Beta copy. GoldBug
infects the main MBR of HDD and FDD, it spreads by using the companion virus technique and
contains retrovirus features. It uses numerous stealth and surveillanc to avoid detection.
When a file infected by GoldBug is executed, the virus copies its own code to the hard
disk MBR, if HMA is available the virus goes resident in memory. Also if a modem is
availabe on host system, virus will let modem ring 7 times and then pick it up, this is
the only activation routine found within the virus structure

infection of host will automatically format 1st Hard Disk. Trojan is also suicidal after
thrashing HDD, it will kill itself leaving no trace
