When Count of Cheverny, Henri II
discovered his wife was having an affair with a page, he had the page executed and gave
his wife the option of dying by sword or poison, she choose the poison. Afterwards, in
1634 he rebuilt the castle we see now. The castle is located 20 km (12 miles) from the
city of Blois. The castle grounds include, the orangery, where some famous works of art
were hidden during the war, a hunting reserve, kennel, and a trophy room with 2,000
antlers and a lovely stained glass window which depicts of scene of castle life. Unlike
most castles, Cheverny is decorated with furniture, paintings, and many other beautiful
objects worth the visit! Cheverny is unlike other castles in that it is inhabited by the
current Count and his family, photos in the entrance. Cheverny and Chambord are located
quite close to each other and it is possible to visit the two in the same day. |
