Born on April 11, 1948, married, one
child. After completing his secondary-school education in Pribram, Mr.Zeman graduated from the Teachers' Training College of Ceske Budejovice.He began his teaching career at a basic school and then taught at the grammar school in Trhove Sviny. He was a Communist Party member from 1966 to 1970. In 1989, he joined the Civic Forum to serve, inter alia, as member of the Civic Forum's Co-ordination Centre for Teachers. He has been a member of the CSSD Social Democratic Party since 1990 and its spokesman for education and school policies. In 1992 Mr.Zeman was elected to the Czech National Council and, in the general election of 1996, to the Chamber of Deputies of the CR Parliament where he has been concerned mainly with with the problems of education, the school system and culture. Since 1990, Mr.Zeman has also served as a member of the Basic School Teachers' Association Republic Council. |
