The Rev. Vicars Hodge

I'm married to Carole and the father of three children: Jenna who attends Bible College in Toronto, Andrew in Grade 6 and Erin Grace in Grade 3. Andrew is our budding computer guru and the one who put this Web Page together! Carole is a Registered Nurse and my friend and companion.

I am the pastor of a rural Anglican Parish in Western Ontario which includes the Town of Wingham and the Village of Lucknow, Ontario. I would describe myself as a "garden variety" sort of Christian. I grew up in the Anglican Church and worked in business for quite a few years before offering myself as a candidate for ordination.

While I am passionate about Jesus and want all the world to know of his love, I'm convinced that Christian faith needs to be lived as well as believed. I'm one of the leaders in the North Huron Community FoodShare - a food-bank which serves about 475 families in our region. God willing, my wife Carole will accompany me on this pilgrimage. On our group tour I hope that we will be willing to share in worship times at some of the sites we visit. Holy Communion on Mount of the Beatitudes for example.

When Ruth Hilsey-Rafati (Seven Hills Tours) invited me to take a tour group to the Holy Land I was excited about the possibilities. My first trip to Israel was an amazing experience. When I was a student at Wycliffe College in Toronto I had the great privilege of going to Israel for 10 days with a group from the theological college. I found the pilgrimage to be truly transformative. Suddenly the geography and the Bible story came together for me. Now when the scriptures tell that Jesus and the 12 went from the upper room to Gethsemane, I can mentally picture the terrain and the distance. I have a picture in my head of the Sea of Galilee and suddenly the calling of Peter and Andrew are more than a story - I can picture the setting. A trip to the Holy Land is not like any other sort of vacation trip... it is pilgrimage. As you walk the streets of the Old City in Jerusalem or explore Nazareth you know that you are walking where our Lord walked. I am excited to be able to make a second trip to Israel - this time accompanied by a group of other pilgrims.

If there is anything further that I can tell you - about the trip or about my own background please drop me a line. I hope you will consider joining Carole and I on our pilgrimage.
