How "S" and "L" met:
S's sister was in the Marshalls department store when her youngest son starting crying from hunger. She sat down to feed him next to two girls who just happened to be discussing what kind of guys they would like to meet. One of the girls' descriptions and expectations seemed to match S's characteristics, so S's sister interrupted their conversation and provided that girl ("L") with S's name and phone number, and in turn the girl provided hers.
After notifying her brother of the event that just took place with the two girls, "S" called and spoke to "L" for the first time on August 1st, 1990 at 8:45 PM. They sent up their first date for August 10th of that year. "L" was "magically" picked up and wisked away in style, and hence they successively dined out at Mr. Laff's off of University Boulevard (now out of business) -- then took in a movie that same rainy evening. The brisk walk to the theatre in the rain, holding a little umbrella between them, sparked "S" to caution "L" and say "Stay close to me so you don't get wet!" -- "S" detected a faint smile appearing on L's face as those words were recited.
The movie starred Harrison Ford as a lawyer accused of murdering a client that he was romantically involved with. We both agreed that the movie was awful. We were even thinking alike!
"S" went out with "L" a second time and then broke the news to her that he was heading out to Arizona and might not ever see her again. The news brought unseen tears in her eyes and a sharp pounding in her heart. But "L" pursued "S" by snail mail and telephone calls, and she sent him letters and pretty banners and a cute keychain with a large picture of her in it. "S" in turn sent her humorous postcards, always returned and never ignored her telephone calls, and sent her a magnet from Lake Havasu City as his "object of attraction". Thus, they fell in love with each other long distance.
When the assignment ended "S" came home and they became engaged over dinner on Valentine's Day at the beautiful Fort Lauderdale Marina restaurant on the beach overlooking the scenic intercoastal waterway. The rest, as they say, is history! And since then they pretty much lived happily ever after!
