Granny's Travel Tips and Links
Granny's Travel Tips and Links
Throughout my travels, I've picked up a few tips from
personal experiences. I hope you can find these
useful as well.
1. Take an extra bag, (plastic) in your purse or pocket and call it a "Just in Case Bag". Just in case you find something you HAVE to carry with you while shopping, exploring, or enjoying the travel.
2. Take as few clothes as possible with you.
3. Pack your luggage, and take 50% of the clothes OUT.
4. Go to the bank, and get 50% more money.
5. Discard clothes along the way...i.e. take comfy clothes with you and leave them as you wear them.
6. Shoes...be sure they are comfortable for walking.
7. Carry a complete change of clothes in your flight bag, as I've been caught without luggage for three days.
8. When traveling with friends or relatives, pack some of your clothes in their luggage, as chances that ALL luggage will NOT be lost.
9. Carry all your medicines WITH you at all times.
10. Do NOT leave anything of value in your hotel room. Either carry your passport and extra money with you, or check it into the hotel safe. I "wear" my money and passport.
11. CHARGE as many purchases as possible in a foreign country, as you get the best rate of exchange for your money. Most all countries take VISA or MASTER CARD.
12. Try to get some currency for each country you will be visiting, prior to arrival. At least have enough for taxi fare, and to purchase a meal and drink. This avoids the long lines at the airport or train station, AND the higher rate of exchange that you will have to pay.
13. When going from country to country do NOT exchange your money back to your home currency and then to the next country, just exchange it to the next country. (You will pay two transaction fees the other way.)
14. Most places do NOT except coin exchanges, spend the coins, or you will have extra souvenirs from that country.
15. Hotels are NOT good exchange places, although convenience is worth something at times!
16. Chart the weather of where you are going for a period of time prior to leaving home. Hence there will be NO surprises in the weather once you get there.
