Tblisi, the capitol city of Georgia, can trace it's "modern" history back for 1500 years.
There are some archeological indications the there has been a settlement there for at
least 5000 years.
Tradition has it that King Vaktang Gorgasali (the Wolf-Lion) was hunting and set his hunting
bird after a Pheasant. When the Falcon attacked the bird both fell into the mineral springs
and were found boiled by the King. (You can still bathe in those springs in baths built by
the Turks centuries ago. Nice relief after spending the day climbing the Sacred Mountain.)
At that point King Vaktang ordered that a city be built on the spot. From that time
forward Tbilisi has been the major city and capitol of the nation.
Throughout the centuries it has been in the possession of many different cultures. Each
has left their own mark on the city.
