Mysteries and Traditions of the Equinox

In the Threskian Tradition the Fall Equinox is the time we call Genesis, as it is the time of Birth. During this time we celebrate birth through feasting the Great Mother Pamaka (Demetra), the All Mother, Mother Earth. The ceremony of this festival involves the digging up of the Ka Egg and placing it in one’s Sacred Place, until the Spring Equinox when it is buried again. In ancient Greece this was a time that marked the beginning of the Eleusinian Mysteries, dedicated as they were to the Mother Demetra. In origin these mysteries were a festival for the autumn sowing. During this time, many Threskians also sit in deep meditation on the Ka Egg and chanting the mantra PA-MA-KA.
