Chapter III of an ongoing
saga
London.
Burn treatment of a hopital.
Jonothan Starsmore's party was to be wonderful. All his friends from
school were to be there, along with Gayle, his girlfriend. After partying into the
night, Jon's parents were going to take Gayle, Jon, and Jon's younger sister Jizara
on a cruise. Then something terrible happened; Jon's mutant powers 'decided' to
reveal themselves. The reason Jon is in the hospital in because his powers
became appearent with an explosion of light and energy. That was three days
ago.
Jon was bandaged immediately. He has been semiconcious the entire
time. Jon is in no pain, at least appearent pain. His mother and sister have been
by his side almost the entire time. His father was called away on important
financial business. He was called, and is able to return later this day.
Jon begins to stir.
"Jon? Mom! Jon's awake!" Jizara calls out.
"He is?!" she says as she rushes in from the coffee machine. A nurrse
follows.
"M'lady Starsmore, the doctors wanted to see him as soon as he awoke.
Can you and your daughter wait outside?" the nurse asks.
"Yes. Come, Jizara." lady Starsmore says, and awlks outside to wait.
The doctor enter, and examine Jon for about a half hour. They take blood
and tissue samples, and examine him physically, except for the bandaged area.
His mother and sister walk in.
"Jon, are you okay?" his mother asks.
Jon nods yes, unable to speak.
"The doctors said you may not be able to speak right away." she explains
to him.
Jon looks around, and sees a pen and pad across the room, on a table.
He points to it, and Jizara notices.
"Oh, you wanna write out what you wanna say." Jizara say.
Jon nods yes again, and Jizara retrieves the pen and pad. She hands
them over to Jon, and he starts writig immediately.
'Where am I?' he writes.
"The hospital burn treatment unit, dear," his mother explains "There was a
bomb in your cake."
Jon writes furiously.
'A bomb?! Where's Gayle? Is she okay? Can she come see me? I
want to see if she's okay!' he writes.
"I'm not sure. Jizara, can you go ask the nurse?"
"Yeah, mum. I'll be right back." Jizara says before she runs out of the
room.
'There wasn't a bomb, was there?' Jon writes when Jizara leaves. 'I
remember a, a pain in my chest, then I blacked out. What happened?'
"Dear, you, you caused the explosion." his mother replies, quietly.
'I did?'
"Yes. Your chest, it exploded."
'It did?? I caused this?'
"Yes." his mother says solemnly. "The doctors, they say you're, you're a
mutant."
'A mutant?!?' he writes 'I can't be' a pause 'Can I?'
"Well the doctors. Here comes your sister."
Jizara rushes back into the room, out of breath. She speaks slowly,
breathing deeply.
"Damn hospital." she mutters "I talked to the nurse outside, and she told
me to go down to information, on the first floor. I rushed downstairs, `cause the
elevator ain't workin'. I got to inforamtion, and the guy down there told me tha
Gayle was one floor above us. Then I ran up here to tell you two." Jizara
explains.
"That's good, dear. Why don't you go see if Gayle is able to come down
and see Jon."
"`Kay, mum." Jizara says, then she bolts out the door.
Jon slumps down, into the blankets He writes something.
'Mum, unless she already knows, don't tell Gayle that I'm a mutant.'
"I won't. But your father will have to know." his mother says as she
brushes a bit of hair out of Jon's eyes.
About 10 minutes later, Jizara opens the door.
"Jon? Here's Gayle!" she says, and then she stands back.
Gayle wheels herself in. She's in a wheelchair. Her legs are in casts.
"Jon? Luv?" she asks cautiously as Jizara helps her in.
"He's in her, Gayle." Jon's mother says.
'Gayle?! Are you okay?' Jon writes.
His mother reads the note to Gayle as she wheels over next to Jon's bed.
Jon's mother and Jizara leave Jon and Gayle to be alone.
"I'm fine, luv." she answers, and Jon takes her hand in his. "The doctor's
worry about my legs, but I think they'll be fine. `Ow are you?"
'I'm fine. The doctors haven't told me anything, `cept for the fact tha O
might not be able to talk for awhile.'
Gayle reads the note.
"Well, I'm a good reader." she says, lightening up the subject. "Do you
know what `appened?"
'The police think there was a bomb in the cake.'
"A bomb? But, I remember you being in pain, and then the explosion."
Gayle says.
Jon pauses, then writes.
'I cut myself.'
Gayle knows that is a lie, but doesn't show it. She remembers Jon's chest
exploding and getting thrown across the room. She looks down at her legs.
"Jon, luv, I `ave to go. The doctors were coming to see me soon, when
your sister came up." she says, and leans over to kiss Jon's forehead. "I'll come
down tomarrow, luv."
Jon carresses her cheek, and writes some more.
'I love you, Gayle.'
"I love you too, Jon" Gayle replies, and calls for Jizara to come get her.
Jon's mother comes in.
"We have to get going too, Jon. We'll be by tomarrow sometime around
9am." she says, and turns to go. "Be good, dear. Good night."
Jon waves goodbye as his mother leaves. He rolls over, and searches for
the remote to the tv. He spies it on the table across the room. He press the
'summon nurse' button on the wall next to him. A few minutes later, a nurse
comes in.

"Yes? Do you need `elp?" the nurse asks.
Jon concentrates.
~~Can, you, get, the, remote?~~
The nurse nods yes, and brings the remote over to Jon.
~~Thank, you.~~ he says telepathically.
"That is why we're `ere, sir." the nurse answers as she leaves.
Jon is amazed. He thought what he wanted to say, and the nurse heard
him.
I must have telepathic powers, Jon thinks, cool. I don't `ave to write
anymore.
Jon tosses the pad onto the table, and turns on the tv.
~~News, cartoons, more news.~~ Jon thinks aloud as he switches
channels. ~~There isn't anything on this thing.~~
Jon lands on a newscast about about mutants.
"A `ideous mutant appeared near Bucking`am Palace earlier this week." the
newscaster says, and it shows a clip. A man drops to the ground, and begins to
grow larger. His hands form claws. Dragon-like wings rip out of his back.
"Bobbys arrived at the sceen, and quickly subdued the dragon-mutant
before it could do any damage." the newscaster concludes.
Jon turns to another channel.
~~Geez! More news.~~ he thinks.
"...And the police are still looking into the explosion at Starsmore Manor
earlier this week. It injured many teenagers present at a party. Luckily, only a
few were injured seriously enough to be hospitalized. All but two, Jonothan
Starsmore and another teenager, whose name has not been revealed to the
media, have been released. Mr. Starsmore and the second teenager are
recuperating at a local hospital." the second newscaster states.
~~Well, nice to be on the tele. At least they don' know `bout my secret.~~
Jon turns off the tv, and dims the lights.
