                    Chapter VI in an ongoing
                                           saga

~~Where can I find a large enough power source, that I can carry?~~
Jon says as he wanders through the engineering section of the cruiseship.
He has discovered the presence of diamond thieves on the cruiseship, and the
thieves have discovered him. Jon formulated a plan. If he can find a large enough
power source, he can open a portal long enough for Jon to toss the thieves through,
maybe landing on the police's doorstep. The reason Jon is wandering through a
restricted part of the ship is because of a psionic suggestion in the minds of the
crew. Jon is searching for some type of power source, maybe a large battery, or a
generator. He passes a worker, and decides to follow him. Jon follows the worker
through a series of twists and turns, coming out in a rather small room. Inside, an
array of batteries is laid out.
~~Who'd a thunk it? A room full of batteries on a cruise ship.~~ Jon looks
through the assortment, and finds a large car battery. ~~This should do,~~ Jon
says as he picks it up. Jon walks through the engineering section, trying to
'suggest' to the crew that his is invisible. Only one crewmember stops to stare at
the 'floating battery'. Jon makes it back to his room, and looks at the clock. It
reads 09:45pm.
~~I'd better `urry.~~ Jon says, and pulls the bag out from under his bed. He
sets to work wiring the battery into the remote controls power set-up. After about
a half-hour, Jon tests the device. It springs to life, and a stable portal opens. But
instead of a New York street, it is a wide open pasture, with deer bolting towards
the woods. Jon shrugs, and shuts down the portal.
     ~~Must be Central Park.~~
Jon packs his backpack, carrying only essentials; clothes, the remote and
battery, his beretta, and ammo. His stuff the bag under his bed, but leaves the
remote on the bedside table, still connected to the battery. Jon sits down on the
bed, and waits.
~~If they are gonna do it, it'll be after lights-out.~~
     The bar.
The mysterious woman is sitting at a table, alone. The drug cartel is
standing near the bar, putting 'the moves' on someone. The woman's thugs enter,
and sit down at the table across from her.
     "Well?" she asks.
"We found his room number.." the first begins.
"..We are gonna knock `im off after lights-out" the second finishes.
"Well, did you have any trouble?" the woman inquires.
"Er, yes, we did Miss Maquel..." the first says.
"I said never use my name in public." Miss Maquel tells them.
"Yes, Miss, er, ma`am. But we did have trouble.." the first thug replies
hastily.
"We had to kill the security officer. He gave us trouble." the second says.
"Didn't I tell you _not_ to kill anyone? We don't need any extra attention."
she says.
"Sorry, ma`am, but he wouldn't give us the room number. We had to." the
second says.
"Fine. But get back there right now and toss the body overboard. That
should stall." she orders.
     "Yes ma`am" the first says.
"Right away, ma`am." the second says, and they leave.
"Men." she says, and orders a vodka twist, on the rocks.
     The drug cartel wanders over.
     "Trouble?" He asks.
"No, none at all. We are still meeting at midnight to make the exchange,
right?" Miss Maquel inquires.
"Of course. I'll have my end ready and waiting." the columbian man asks.
"Good. Now leave, so no one suspects anything." she answers, hurridly.
The thugs are rushing back through the office section. They make it back to
the security office, but someone is there.
"Hey, did you see who did this, ACK!" the man never finishes. The first
thug shoots him, as well.
"Great, now we have to toss two overboard." the second says.
"Don' worry. It ain't that hard. Go get a couple bags from the closet, and
we'll drag `em out to the edge. Then we jus' toss `em over. Simple." the first
replies. The second thug walks out to the closet, and grabs a couple of dark
garbage bags. When he comes back, they stuff the officer and the witness into the
bags, and carry them to the secluded deck. With a splash, the bags hit the water
and float momentarily, then sink to the dark, watery depths. One of the thugs
looks at his watch, and it reads 11:45pm.
"We'd better get to that Starsmore's room." he says.
"Okay. That way, right?" the other asks, and points toward the front of the
ship. The other nods, and they start towards Jon's room.
Jon, on the otherhand, is toying with the remote. He is opening portals for
short amounts of time. A quarter of the time, it is the forest glade. Another
quarter, it opens a portal to a city street, but one not of England or American type.
The third place is a desert environment. The last place the portal shows is a tavern,
overlooking cliffs above the ocean. Jon notes all the locations, and hopes none are
densly populated.
~~Thses thieves could really screw up a place, if they `ave the chance....~~
Just then, the door flies open. It is the thugs. Jon leaps to the other side of
the bed.
"Where are ya, Mr. Starsmore?" one asks.
"We got a prize fer ya." the other says.
Jon reaches out with his psionic aura, almost on reflex, and the first thug
drops to the ground, hemorrhaging from his eyes, nose, and ears. The second
drops his gun, startled.
     "Good lord..." he says.
~~You should be praying to `im, idiot.~~ Jon says, and his psychedelic aura
flaring. ~~Who sent you? Why?~~
"Uh, uh, Miss Maquel. She needs you dead, to make sure she can sell the
diamond and make a clean getaway." the thug stammers.
     ~~What is `er room number?~~
"Deck 5, section 76, room 203." He stutters, and then drops to the ground,
hemorraging like the first.
Jon's psionic aura fades, and he drags the thugs around to the opposite side
of his bed. He walks out to the hall, and sets the door upright in the frame. He
walks toward Miss Maquel's room. He is furious, and as he turns the corner, he
see the drug cartel enter, leaving his lackies outside to guard. Jon gestures, and the
lackies drp to the ground, silently, hemorraging massively. Jon stops in front of the
door, and the muffled voices of Miss Maquel and the cartel can be heard. Jon
pushes open the door.
"I said stay outside, idjits.....Oh, great." The cartel says, as he notices it is
Jon.
"I sent my men to kill you!" Miss Maquel exclaims.
~~They failed.~~ Jon says, and gestures. The cartel flies against the wall,
and struggles, as if his throat is collasping. He points at Miss Maquel, and she
starts to drop to her knees.
     ~~Where is it?~~
     "Where.......is........what?" She stutters.
     ~~The diamond. And the money.~~

"The.....diamond.....is.....under......there.......He......has....the....money...in...that......
case...." she says, and points at the case the drug cartel holds.
Jon gestures, and the case flies over to his hand. The bed lifts off the floor,
and a box underneath it opens. A large diamond floats out, and lands in Jon's
hand. The case full of money, and the diamond float down to Jon's feet, and he
pulls a length of rope from his pocket. Miss Maquel stands there, and the drug
cartel floats over next to her. The rope then floats aroundthem, tying them soundly
together. Jon puts the diamond in the box, and picks the box and the case up. As
Jon leaves the room, the door closes by itself, and the two lackies float up. They
float behind Jon, as he walks non-chalantly back to his room. A cleaning lady
passes, and Jon nods politly. The cleaning lady doesn't notice the dead men,
another psionic suggestion. Jon makes it back to his room, and the thugs join the
lackies in floating above Jon's carpet. Jon picks up his backpack, and settles the
remote in his pocket. He activates a portal, and it is the forest glade. Jon points
into the portal, and the dead men float through, and Jon follows. As Jon exits into
the forest glade, the portal closes with a flash of light.
