Chapter IX in an ongoing
saga
Jon leaps away. He rolls, swinging at the goblin's lower leg. Sparks fly
as sword blade meets armor. The goblin kicks Jon's sword from his hand. The
sword spins away, landing in another goblins chest. That goblin screams and
drops to the ground. He rolls away, drawing his handgun.
~~That's it. Die!!!~~ Jon screams, and fires round after round into the
large goblin. It staggers back, stunned. The bullets ricochet off the armor. Jon
reloads quickly and resumes firing. Finally, the bullets pierce the armor and the
goblin drops to the ground, his chest exploding in a hail of bullets and blood.
Jon smiles as blood pours from dozens of bullet wounds. He turns toward
Gilfried, only to se a goblin smash its axe into his side.
"Yeagh!!!" Gilfried screams as he drops to the ground. Jon fires off a
round and the goblin's head explodes, splattering more gore on Gilfried. Jon
rushes over to the unconscious Gilfried.
~~THAT'S IT!! THIS ENDS NOW!!!~~ Jon says, as his psychedelic
aura envelopes him. He begins to float above the ground, seemingly
surrounded by flames. The remaining goblins scurry away, terribly frightened.
Jon spreads his hands out in a wide circle, encompassing the clearing. The
goblins run, but burst into un-natural flames. The burning goblins drop to the
ground, screaming in agony.
~~Burn in 'ell, suckers.~~ As Jon floats back to the ground, the flames
around him disappear. He kneels beside Gilfried. ~~'Ey, you alive?~~
A moan answers him. Jon psionically lifts Gilfried and picks his way
through the body parts, burning embers, and various junk. Spotting his
longsword imbedded a goblin's chest, he carefully picks his way over to retrieve
it. He yanks the sword from its place in the goblins chest. The goblin jerks,
and on reflex, Jon draws his handgun and fires off a round into the goblin,
splattering more blood and gore onto Jon. Psionically lifting the goblin, Jon
tosses it into a hut, collapsing it. Jon fastens the longsword to his pack, and
looks for Gilfried's sword. He finds it under a pile of goblin bodies, some of
which are still burning. He tosses the bodies out of the way, and places it into
the psionic cocoon around Gilfried.
As Jon walks out of the clearing, the sun begins to set. The goblin huts
are burning, and wild dogs have gathered, starting to feast on the carcasses.
His vision not yet adjusted to the change in light, Jon walks slowly along until
he feels a stabbing pain in his lower leg. Turning quickly, he sees a bloodied
and beaten goblin, pulling its hand away from a crude dagger that the goblin
imbedded in Jon's leg. Jon makes a gesture with his hand, and the goblin
explodes. Cringing, he pulls the dagger from his leg and stumbles toward the
Inn.
