So, you browsed my pages and you think it takes
far too long to load and itīs generally, crap,
and your browser canīt take it anyway?
Then, do it yourself, and
make it better.
On this page I have collected all the tools
and good services I use to maintain these pages. Theyīre
all on the web, and they are either free or fully
functional shareware.
Be the first one in your neighbourhood to register both WinZip and
PaintShop Pro !
Presumed you have ownly a blank Windows PC and a dial up account, here is all you need to set up your own homepage:
1.Get
yourself a home on the web
There are people who offer you free web space
for your homepage. At www.oocities.org
they give you 3 megabyte to express yourself,
which suffices for a decent page like this one.
2.
Get
a nice browser to edit your homepage
Netscape
Navigator Gold has a built in editor for web pages.
And itīs the standard in web browsers anyway. Allways
using the current beta, It's free.
3.Get
an utility to unwrap all your gatherings
You have to deal with a lot of compressed
files on the internet. Unpack them with WinZip.
4.Get
a FTP program for uploading your Homepage
You may have to use special names when you upload
your pages, as is the case with Geocities. Take Cute
FTP.
5.Get
all these graphics
While you surf the web, your browser grabs
all these graphics anyway, and puts them in its cache. Use my own Retriever
to create thumbnail indexes of all the images in the cache directory of
your browser, then copy the ones you like to a safe place.
6.Get
a program to edit your graphics
You'll want to modify and convert images.
Use PaintShop Pro
to do so. It also saves transparent Gifs.
7.Get
an utility to animate Gifs
A convenient way to include animation
in your homepage are animated Gifs. Gif
Construction Set 95 makes them.
8.Get
an utility to generate image maps
Map This! generates html for clickable images
that take you to another page depending on where you click on them.
9.Get
what counts
Keep trace on how many people saw your creations, with the
Free Web Counter from www.digits.com.
Be sure to copy the html they show you after registering your counter
to a safe place.
10.Get
yourself a Free guestbook
at www.Lpage.com,
and see who was there. Be sure to copy the html they
show you after registering your guestbook to a safe place.
That's it ! Make your own homepage now.
PS: If you like to have your own
original graphics, but don't consider yourself a Renóir,
why not construct drawings rather than draw
them ? You can construct 3D views with the Free Breeze
Designer, and then render them in Raytracing quality with
PovRay, probably
the most powerful ray tracer, and itīs Free.
Get the comfortable Windows
version of PovRay.
The Silver Surfer Logo has been designed with these two, and
it only took me about an hour. Or two.
