Welcome to Moreno's Theatre, in the Community of GrassRoots!

Jacob Levy Moreno was born in Bucarest (now: Verdanaia) in 1892.
He was in Vienna in Sigmund Freud's years, where he invented, in 1916,
the Sociometrics.
He went to the States in 1925-6,
a few years after another very interesting man:
Konstantin Stanislavskij, that thought that every man, or woman, or kid,
can create a character and be an actor
simply acting in the most spontaneous way.
Moreno went beyond this big idea: he thought that theater is
the best place where people can meet other people
(with a difficult word: socialize)
and DO theater together, playing a true comedy.

Role playing in MUDS, MOOs, etc

writes:

I see the possibility of MUDS evolving into instant psychodrama
for any one ready to enter these mental health dungeons and slay
the dragons of the mind. If only Moreno (the founder of psycho-
drama) were available to help the wizard accumulate a data base
of roles, themes, and traumas to catharse.

Here is a message to Group-psychotherapy Mailing-List,

group-psychotherapy@freud.apa.org
hi to all forum members,
for several months i enjoy reading your messages and
learning from your experience and the serious subjects
discussed in this e-mail discussion group.
i loked in the suggested bibliography on special topics and
group psychotherapy in particular. but...
there is one name i don't see and one reference that you all
ignore and/or overlook.
the name is j.l.moreno - the man who coined the name of
this group - group psychotherapy in 1932, long before
many others, the man who invented role playing,
who invented sociometry, who invented psychodrama.
it is sad that also in the usa where he developped his
philisophy, theory and methods -
his name and achievements are ignored, while some
of his methods are used all over.
so, for the record, let me give you some references about
j.l.moreno and his work:

1) moreno,j.l (1978). who shall survive? (3rd ed.) beacon, ny.
2) moreno,j.l, & moreno z.t. (1959). psychodrama,
volume two. beacon, ny.
3) moreno j.l, & moreno z.t. (1969). psychodrama,
volume three. beacon, ny.
4) blatner, a. & blatner, a. (1978). foundations of
psychodrama: history, theory and
practice. ny, springer publishing.
5) hale, a.e, (1986). conducting clinical
sociometric explorations.
(available from
ann e. hale, blue ridge human relations,
2757 richelieu ave, roanoke, va 24014.
call (703) 344-7791 )
6) kellerman, p.f.(1992). focus on psychodrama:
the therapeutic aspects of psychodrama.
london: kingsley publishers.
7) kipper, d.a.(1986). psychotherapy through clinical
role playing. ny: brunner/mazel.
8) leveton, e (1992). a clinician's guide to psychodrama.
(2nd ed.) ny: springer publishing.

it is a mystery to me, why in the academic world
as well as the therapeutic milieu -
moreno, his theory and metods are ignored.
what about your professional integrity, guys?
i hope some of you got the answer.
i hope i also provoked your curiosity.
looking forward to your responses.

thank you and shalom,
yossi.

De-Locos
