This door opens only after a great tug. It is obviously seldom used. "Well, it seems you do surprise me. Very few people enter this room, but by all means, if you wish to hear my story, pull a seat by the fireplace, and open your ears and your mind and listen. For this is how I came to be the figure you see before you."

MOI

(that means me, for those of you in Rio Linde, CA)

Well, world, here I am. But who am I? Well, if you're reading this, you must want to know. Well, my name is Rick Marcum, and I am not a student. I never went to college, and I have no degrees in engineering, or programing, or anything else (as if you can't already tell). I am just a 27 year old perverted working man. I am married but in the process of getting a divorce, with 3 beutiful children. Too young for 3 kids, you say? Think about it, my youngest is a year old. He will be out of the house by 19. I'll only be 44 years old. I can still party!

I graduated high school (barely) in McMinnville, Tennessee in 1989, and joined the United States Army on my 18th birthday. I was stationed in Monterey, California at the Presidio, where I studied the language of Czechloslovakian (no, I don't remember it). I was then transfered to Fort Benning, Georgia to infantry school (where I wanted to go to begin with) and from there went to Baumholder, Germany for the next 2 years. I was discharged in 1992, and have been working as a salesman or a sales manager ever since.

I first started playing role playing games in 1986 when I was in the 8th grade. I had a friend by the name of Tully Franks, and we used to actually game during Mr. Moore's English class! Now, kids, I dont recommend this practice, because I went through the 8th grade twice! Then there was a guy named Steven Levenhagen who played Star Frontiers with me in Mr. Dixon's shop class! And we still passed! All through high school (before I had a car) my best friend, John Fisher, and I played for hours over the phone. I never really had a gaming group untill I got to Germany, then I found a great group. I can't remember all their names, but that is where I really learned the basics of how to game. But so far, the only 2 games that held any interest for me, were D&D, and Star Frontiers. Then an officer intoduced us to mechs. That game is alright, but not enough actual role playing for me. After I left the army in 1992, I returned home and put my D&D books on a shelf. It wasn't untill almost a year later that I ran into Johnny Burchfield, Gary Haley, Eric Hillis, and Johnny's brother Billy. I thought that after 7 years of gaming, I knew what I was doing. Wrong. These guys blew me away. Then come to find out they had been gaming together for 10 years or better! Geez, talking about being intimidated! But they took me into their group, made me feel welcome, and soon, we all became some of the best of friends. We shared many adventures together, and had some of the best times humanly (and sometimes inhumanly) possible. We've gone through alot of other players who will come to 2 or 3 gaming sessions, then drop off the face of the earth. But that's OK, that's where we get some of our best gaming supplies ( "I don't know where you're Planescape box is, didn't I give it back to you?") Tragicly, Johnny died on december 23, 1995, from complications related to diabetes. His brother, Billy moved to Florida, and we've only seen him once, when he was back for the funeral. So now it's just myself, Eric, and Gary, but we still get together, game, and have a good time.

As for some of my non-gaming hobbies, right now I'm heavy into bodybuilding, and I have been known to sing at a karaoke bar a time or two. As far as music, I try to stay very diverse. My main interest is in country ( I can hear you young whippersnappers gagging) but I do listen to others. Mainly Allanis Moresette, 80's tunes, Micheal Bolton, and some of the 80's style rock, like Motley Crue, Autograph, Ratt, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, etc. But I'd have to say my favorite group of all time is KISS.

Well, now you know a little about me. Hope it was as good for you as it was for me! I now have a personal links page that has nothing to do with gaming. Check it out! Enjoy the other pages!

And, as promised, I have an update for ya! The past year since I have updated my bio has been pretty wild, ups, downs, and what not. The biggest thrill so far is I have gotten my pro wrestling gig off the ground. That's right, as of July 4th, I am now a professional wrestler! Unfortunately, with the hills come the valleys...I am in the middle of a seperation from my wife of 8 yrs. But all things change, and I will always do my best to find the light in the dark. I am also easy to catch online now, on irc...you can find me on DalNet under the nicks Bravehart, Tarkin, or Szordrin. Look me up!

Well, that wraps it up for now...I promise not to wait untill next year to update again : ) And for all those that are curious to see my ugly mug, I have implanted a couple of pictures on the bottom of the page. Enjoy!
