OMEGA IV
                                ADDITIONAL INFO

The Species

In the Universe there are three Prime Species, that is, species created by
the Universal creator, DAL (albeit via billions of years of evolution on
their seperate planets)
  These are all humanoid:

The Terran Humans, who live on Earth. Prior to the events in Omega IV, this
species knew nothing of the other two species.

The Andromeda Council who inhabit three planets in the Andromeda Galaxy.
These are the only one of the Prime species who know of DAL. Their technology
is millenia ahead of the other two species. They are incapable of physical
violence.

The Kai-Tahn (pronounced kye tarn) a species who live on a small planet in
our own Galaxy. The Kais have limited control over a wormhole linking their
planet and the outer edge of the Terran solar system, and have advanced
weapon and energy production technology, but wish to obtain the Terran's
computer technology. They are also planning an invasion on Earth.

One member of the Terrans is a DALChild, he has highly advanced knowledge,
intelligence and physical power, given to him by the DAL. He himself dids not
know of his physical powers before the events of Omega IV. He is a member of
the Consortium.

Life has evolved at random on several hundred other planets in the universe,
but this is largely unintelligent.

The Consortium

The company who holds the monopoly on Space travel and inahabitation is the
International Space Exploration Authority (ISEA). The company President is an
American man called Ralph Jefferson.

Hiding behind the ISEA, the world's richest and fastest growing company,
Jefferson is also head of a group of fourteen men, known as the Consortium.
This is an unofficial, top secret organisation, who investigate the possible
discovery of extraterrestrial life. Their means, however are entirely greedy.
They are trying to find a planet inhabited by intelligent life, steal any
advanced technology to market it as it's own, and exterminate the species, to
claim an inhabitable planet to either sell as a home for people on the
overpopulated Earth, or use as a test base for their own secret projects.

The Consortium intends to do this with it's secret, highly illegal (all types
of firearms and armed confilct are outlawed on Earth) private military, the
pretentiously named SDI (Stellar Defence Inititiative)

The Stations

The ISEA has four types of station, around the solar system:

Two Alpha stations, in orbit around Earth, the first a home for the ISEA
management the second, a launch base for interplanetary craft.

Five Beta stations. These are surface structures, three on the Moon and two
on Mars. These act as both homes for ISEA employees and their families, and
as small scientific research and development centres.

Six Gamma stations. These are in high orbits around the planets of the Solar
system (excluding Mercury, Earth and Pluto) These are mainly research centres.

Four Omega stations. These circle the very outer edges of the Solar system,
acting as large space telescopes to provide detailed information about the
Universe.

The above are the 'official' purposes of the stations. Most of them,
especially the Omega stations, are used by the Consortium for far more
selfish means than they appear to the general public, anad, indeed, a lot of
the ISEA's employees.

The Ships

The ships are mainly powered by DT (Deuterium/Tritium) fusion injection
engines. There are rumours that the ISEA is working on engines using highly
unstable antimatter.

Many larger ships, especially interplanetary shuttles use Hyperspace travel.
A QIC (Quantum Instability Compensator) field protects the ship as it is
'inverted', allowing it to travel through the Hyperspace between quanta,
allowing it to travel at a relative speed of around seven billion miles a day.
However, the great energy needed for the shield, and the nature of it's
decay, means that travel is limited to about 30 hours, meaning that travel is
only possible within the Solar System.

SDI armament for ships includes laser arrays, plasma pulse cannons and
high-eplosive Proximity Bombs. There have been rumours of OTS (Orbital to
surface) antimatter bombs capable of destroying entire biosystems on planets,
but nobody has seen anything to back these rumours up.

Large ships, as well as the stations, have artificial gravity generators.
They communicate mainly using IRLT (Infra red laser transmissions)

The Computers

Computers in the early 23rd use nanophotonic technology to achieve almost
limitless processing speed and power. Computers have small amounts of
artificial intelligence, and can learn, making them very effiicient and user
friendly.

Although seperate documents, etc, are stored in seperate files on the
computer, they are all run from the main OS. No external programs are needed
to run security systems, logging, picture editing, word processing, etc. The
OS can also learn to do things that it hasn't even been programmed to do.

The computers on the stations are all built and programmed by Paradigm
Nanotechnologies, a company owned by Ralph Jefferson. Each type of station
has it's own computer system, named after it, for instance, on Omega-3 the
computer system is called System Omega, Unit Three. It can be 'adressed'
with it's full name, as 'Omega' or simply 'Computer' (These are the names
which it will respond to in voice command. It's AI also means that it can
usually 'realise' that you are talking to it anyway.)

The Weapons

SDI soldiers use plasma pulse rifles, which come in varying styles. They may
also have grenades or laser weapons.
