And so will you. Because it's good.
Here's what happens. Two people are carrying back packs on their backs (which makes sense). One of these contains the £1000 and the other one contains nothing, although the contestants don't know which one they are carrying. The packs are locked. They are then blindfolded and taken to a mystery destinations about 6 miles away from each other. All they've got to do is work out where they are (or try to help Annabel Croft, the presenter, work out where you are), try to find the key to each others packs and then meet up, all within 40 minutes. Easy! EXCEPT for one thing, The Interceptor (Boo, Hiss!).
The Interceptor has a zapper (think Laserquest gun) and will attempt to shoot the sensors on the back of each of the packs. He doesn't know which pack has the money so will try to shoot both contestants during the show. If they get shot, at the end of the show when they try and unlock the packs the ones that were shot won't open. The Interceptor also has the advantage of knowing the starting positions of the contestants and has a helicopter driven by his long-suffering pilot, Mikey.
The show is presented by the lovely Annabel Croft (or she was at the time) and she tries to guide the contestants too their keys and then to meet each other. She doesn't know the contestant's start positions so the contestants have to describe what they can see when they take the blindfolds off. She can get into it remarkably well, being very happy when they win but seems genuinely upset when the contestants lose. She's quite a good guide (but then she's got a map) but can be a little bit docile at times.
The Interceptor is a mad evil Scottish bloke who overacts (Sean O' Kane). He really plays up his evilness, to all intents and purposes he is the villain and is played extremely well. He's even horrible to his cohorts in the helicopter, including the pilot (which leads to some interesting and funny conversations).
One thing I have to mention now is the shows fantastic theme tune. I can't remember what it's based on but it's great, quite frankly
Unfortunately, the show only lasted one series because ITV weren't happy with the ratings (4 million for prime time viewing). It's a shame as it was very entertaining and the reason for this was because it really was exciting. Nobody knew who had one until the end of the show when they tried to undo their packs which meant the Interceptor had to keep going throughout the show just to make sure that he'd got them. The way each of the contestants had a cameraman and the Interceptor also was interesting as you saw things from different perspectives (when he tries an ambush, for example).
On the downside, it could be a little 'empty' at times, but when it's good, it's very, very good.
VERDICT: 8/10 - I think that just about sums it up really.
Agggghhhh! (That's meant to be an impression of what the Interceptor shouts when he's got a contestant, by the way).
Nick's Gameshow Courtroom!
