MFI Tuesday

an explanation

MFI Tuesday started in June of 1998 when I was bored but had some jokes boiling in my head, so I wrote them down on computer with a mind to producing two or three, primarily for friends of mine but not exclusively. I had a look at MFI Thursday (as it was called then) issue 0 and didn't like it (I may upload it one day) so I thought for a bit. I used to edit a school paper and in my final issue in response to a comment I had from my IT teacher it was decided to turn the computer games column into "Nick Gates' Final piece of IT Coursework", essentially filling up a whole page full of tiny writing with a load of rubbish off of the top of my head. It was a success! So I've reproduced the ideas for MFI Tuesday except with more forward thought and planning.

I liked writing it and friends enjoyed reading it so I kept on going on a weekly basis (with two produced over the Summer holidays - now it's weekly) and I've been told several times to market it and send it off to places but I'm not sure about that! I was also asked to put it on the web, which it is now I'm connected.

Essentially, it is satire on the worlds of life (mine generally) and the world of (generally British) popular culture (because everybody does political satire - and besides, it's difficult). Genesis' include Lee and Herring (because a, they're great. b, they're great and c, they're great), a bit of Victor-Lewis Smith (if you ever get a chance to see TV Offal you should!), probably a bit of Have I Got News for You and a bit of surreality (but I'm unsure who to credit that to). Not to mention of course Chris Evans' TV show 'TFI Friday'...

Essentially, you'll need to understand the concept of irony and the world of Brit pop. culture to get the jokes and what I'm aiming at. What's more there are plenty of in-jokes which people not in the know won't get (because they are, er, in-jokes, presumably). All I will say is that Adam is a Goth, who is extremely condescending whenever he gets the chance and likes Metallica. As much as I like him, that final bit alone means he deserves everything he gets, quite frankly. And don't worry, he was consulted before this was uploaded.

Please enjoy and tell me what you think.

If you want to E-Mail me, my address is nickgates@mfit.freeserve.co.uk and if you want to be included in 'It's Your Mail', please mark that in the subject bit (chances are that I'll mock you but there you go!). New episodes go up every Tuesday, when I can be bothered.

Goodbye and enjoy!
