They Think It's All Over - Full Throttle

Broom, broom!

I don't particularly like reviewing videos because I fear I might give away too much to make it worth watching but hey ho, here we go anyway.

The laddish humour in They... is one you either like or hate. Luckily, I find it very funny and this tradition carries over the video.

The usual team of Nick Hancock as chairman, David Gower, Lee Hurst, Gary Lineker and Rory McGrath are all here and the celebrity guests are comedian Fred Mcaully and John Motson (the commentator with an encyclopaedic knowledge of just about everything) and I'm glad to say that it's a combination that wroks well.

The video is basically an extended edition of the show with all the normal rounds and some extra ones. Important new rounds include "Sporting Chicken" where contestants watch a piece of footage and then buzz in just before something happens, in this case there is a doubles Tennis Rally and contestants have to buzz in when they think the rally will finish with three points going to the last person to buzz in but points knocked off if you didn't buzz. It's a round that actually involves a bit of skill but the laughter factor is quite low because guests are busy concentrating on the action.

The other important round was the "Full Throttle" of the title. Last years video had a school sports day and this year the four regulars and chairman went to Brands Hatch to take part in a special kart race. This is my favourite bit of the programme with a brief comedy background to the race and a cheap imitation of Murray Walker doing the commentating making a fine satire of ITV's Formula 1 coverage:

"With the action hotting up considerably it's time for a commercial break!"

And then there is a commericial break advertising last year's video. The voiceover's speech is very good (well, it made me laugh). In conclusion, I say it's good, but the number of memorible lines isn't as high as HIGNFY which is a shame. I still recommend this though because what it does, it does well.

VERDICT: 7.5/10 - Recommended but I advise buying HIGNFY-TOPV first but really big fans of the show obviously won't need to make that decision.
