Links to Various M* Client
Software
I am providing some links to sites where you
can download M* clients to help you interface with the
roleplaying databases. Some are better than others. I suggest
you try a few to find one with the features you like. At a minimum, you will probably want one which offers these basic features:
- Lets you save a list of your favorite worlds and their locations.
- Provides a large buffer in which to type your poses prior to sending them to the M*. Some clients limit the size of this buffer so that you can only type two or three sentences at a time. Others, like Telnet, don't provide a buffer and, as you type, other people's poses are mixing in with your typing on the screen, making it hard to read.
- Allows you to scroll up or recall text that has previously rolled up off your screen. I find a client with a scroll bar more usefull than an /recall command. Different strokes..!
- I like an Client that allows you to highlight text and print it. I find this useful when someone gives me some vital piece of information, like an address or a command I need to remember.
- Logging feature. Many Clients allow you to log. But some provide extra features which allow you to strip channel chat, OOC communications, etc. from the log for you so you don't have to do a lot of cleaning up to make it readable.
- Supports multiple worlds open at the same time and notifies you of activity in the open worlds you aren't currently viewing.
- There are many other features available. What makes them desirable may depend on which environment you choose to play in most often (MUD or MUSH, etc).
The following table is alphabetical by platform. I suggest reading the information and downloading a few to try them out. Some are free and some require registration and a fee. (Personal Plug: Be a good Net Citizen and pay the fee if it's a client you like!)
