Confused Demo
You can confuse Sonic during the demo by pressing all three action buttons
repeatedly. Sonic will lose his place in the pattern and possibly
even die.
Level Select
At the title screen press Up, Down, Left, Right. When you hear the chime
hold A
and press Start.
Debug Mode
At the title screen, press Up, C, Down, C, Left, C, Right. After pressing
Start to
begin a game, hold A until you see Sonic. If you see a bunch of hex numbers
on the
top of the screen, you're in Debug Mode. While playing, you can pause the
game and
use A to restart, B for slow motion, and C for frame advance.
Note: This only works
on the first production releases of Sonic.
Teleport
On the last level (Scrap Brain), find the ledges that move right then left.
Go to the left
side of the wall and wait for the platform to move. As soon as it starts
to move left,
duck. You'll go through the wall. While here, press Left to teleport right
and Right to t
teleport to the left.
Level Select
From the main screen, select Options. Select Sound Select and play sounds
19, 69,
9,17, then push C. Press Start to return to the main screen, and when Sonic
and Tails
appear hold A and press Start.
Debug Mode
To enter Debug Mode, play these sounds from the level select screen: 1,
9, 9, 2, 1, 1,
2, 4. Press Start and hold A.
Super Sonic
To become Super Sonic without getting all the Chaos Emeralds, first enable
the level
select. At the level select menu, go to the sound test item, and play sounds
in this
order: 4, 1, 2, 6. You should hear the music you get when you win a chaos
emerald.
Now select any level, get 50 rings, and jump.
More Continues
First enable the level select. Then, at the options screen, play these
sounds in this
order: 1, 1, 2, 4. Now move the highlight to the "Player Select" field
of the options
screen and press Start.
Play at Night
To play at night, enter the Debug code, then hold C and press Start to
begin a level.
Hyper Sonic
Go to Oil Ocean, Act 2 and run forward until you see the green jet springs.
Hop up
on the very last one and hold Right. You will hit a pile of spikes, then
you will get
stuck in the side of the wall. Jump out and you will be Hyper Sonic. Hyper
Sonic
is faster and can jump higher than Super Sonic, but he can still lose rings
when hit.
Slow Motion
First enable Level Select. While playing, you can pause the game and use
A to
restart, B for slow motion, and C for frame advance.
Super Tails
While in Debug Mode, create and position a "Transfer Box" monitor. When
you hit
it and you are Super Sonic, you lose all your powers but stay yellow. Tails
looks the
same but has invincibility (little stars flashing around him.)
Wing Fortress Shortcut
In Wing Fortress, go as far as you can to the right without climbing. Make
sure you
have some rings. When you see blades blocking your way, go ahead and hit
them.
As soon as your invincible, walk through them. Jump on the platforms to
the right
and half the level will be finished.
Or...
This code requires a Sonic 2 cartridge. Insert Sonic 2 and enter the Sonic
2 level
Select play sounds 19, 65, 09, and 17). Return to the title screen, hold
A and press
Start. To transfer this to Sonic 3, hold A and carefully remove the cartridge
without
turning off the Genesis. Insert Sonic 3 and press Reset. Finally, release
A and press
Down twice at the main menu.
Super Sonic
To become Super Sonic without getting all the Chaos Emeralds, first enable
the level
select and debug mode. When the game begins, create a power-up box. There
should
be an 'S' on the box. Jump on it to grab 50 rings and become Super Sonic!
Bonus Stage
For a bonus stage, enable Level Select, then play tune 01 and 0F. Finally,
highlight
stage 2 and hold A while pressing Start.
Easy Emeralds
To gain all the chaos emeralds, enter the Level Select code, then highlight
"Special
Stage" and press C + Start. After receiving the emerald, press A + Start
and repeat
the process until you have them all.
Play at Night
Enter the Level Select code, then press C + Start to choose your starting
level.
Random Starting Location
Enter the Level Select code and choose a level. Pause the game and press
A to return
to the Level Select menu. Select another level and you will start in a
different area.
Beware, for you may start out in a wall.
Slow Motion
First enable Level Select. While playing, you can pause the game and press
A to
restart, B for slow motion, and C for frame advance.
Super Tails
Enable Level Select, then press Down to make sure you have the sound test
(don't
select it yet). Start a one-player game and choose Tails in the Data Select
screen.
When the timer appears, press Reset.
View Animations
Enter Debug Mode and press B + C. You'll be treated to a view of Sonic
and Tail's
moves.
Bonus Rounds
To play the bonus rounds at any time, insert any game into your Sonic &
Knuckles
cartridge. When the "No Way" message appears, hold A + B + C and press
Start.
Hyper Sonic, Knuckles
or Tails
Connect your Sonic & Knuckles cartridge to Sonic 3. Collect the first
seven emeralds
before you make it to Mushroom Hill Zone. After that, collect the other
seven
emeralds (the Super Emeralds) before you make it to the end of Lava Reef
Zone. Now
just collect 50 rings and jump twice.
Level Select when Linked
to Sonic 2
At the title screen, press Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left,
Right.
You should hear a ring. Next, press A + Start to enter the Stage Select
screen. This
code will remain in effect until you turn off the Genesis.
Debug Mode when Linked
to Sonic 2
Go to the level select screen and play tunes 1,9,9,4,1,0,1,8 (the date
when the game
was made.) Choose any level, then hold A and press Start to activate Debug
mode.
To use it see the instructions in Sonic the Hedgehog.
Level Select when linked
to Sonic 3
In the Angel Island Zone Stage hang on one of the Swinging vines in the
beginning and
quickly press Left, Left, Left, Right, Right, Right, Up, Up, Up. You will
here
a ring if you did this correctly.
Debug Code when linked
to Sonic 3
1. Do the level select code on the Angel Island Zone Stage 1. You will
here a ring if you did this correctly.
2. While still on the Swinging vine pause the game and press A. The
game will now restart. But, you will see the sound test option in the main
menu. Enter the sound test/ level select and select the Mushroom Hill
Zone Act 1.
3. Go to the first Pull Push Up Machine in the Mushroom Hill Zone.
Stick to the lower portion of the level, it will be right next to an
item box with speed shoes and a "madmole" that throws mushrooms.)
Now, grab one of the handles of the Pull Push Up Machine and re-enter
the level select code: Left, Left, Left, Right, Right, Right, Up, Up, Up.
You will again here a ring if you did it correctly.
4. While still on the Pull Push Up Machine pause the game and press A.
The game will now restart.
5. Now, the code is complete, but you have to start a level a little
differently. If you want to start debugging a saved game or a level
from the sound test/level select menu, press and hold down the A button
and
press and hold Start. DON'T LET GO OF BOTH BUTTONS UNTIL
THE LEVEL STARTS AND PAUSES AUTOMATICALLY! Now, let go
of both buttons and unpause the game. You're now in debug mode, but you
won't know you're in it until you press B.
Level Select
From the Options screen, press A, Down, B, Down, C, Down, A, B, Up, A,
C, Up,
B, C, Up. To activate, hold A and press Start for level 2, hold B and press
Start for
level 3, or hold C and press Start for level 4.
Bonus Stage
If you have Sonic & Knuckles, you can access a special bonus stage.
To activate,
insert your Sonic Spinball cartridge into Sonic & Knuckles, then
turn on your Genesis.
Wait for a screen with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Robotnic and the words,
"No
Way". Now hold A+B+C. Now you're ready to play.
Infinite Lives
If you're down to your last life in Toxic Caves, you're in luck. Head for
the barrels,
jump in one, and move toward the wall opposite the emerald. Jump out of
the barrel
and die while heading back to the barrel you jumped out of. You'll see
Sonic die
twice, and you'll appear at the beginning of the level. Near the top it
will say
"Launching extra Ball" and you'll get infinite lives.
Multi-ball Stage
There's a great multi-ball stage in Sonic Spinball. To reach it, get all
the rings on a
level. Then find the gate -- it looks like a large sparkling ring. Voilà:
multiball play!
Level Select
At the "Press Start" screen, press B, A, Right, A, C, Up, Down, A, then
press Start
The level select menu will appear when you begin a game.
Level Skip
Enable the Level Select code, then start a new game. To skip to the next
level, pause
the game and press A. Enter the Level Select code twice. Select any stage
that has
Tails or Knuckles in it (the first stage will do). Get 50 rings and visit
Tails or Knuckles.
When the special stage begins, press A + Start and you will receive the
emerald for
that course.
To view the emerald from below, hold Z as you approach it.
Cheat Mode
At the title screen hold C and press Start. To use the codes, pause the
game while
playing and press any of the following keys:
A Skip to next Act
B Skip to next Stage
C Skip to the final boss
X Gain 1 life
Y Gain 1 medal (10 medals = 1 continue)
Z Gain all Chaos Emeralds
Note: You must earn every 10th medal. That is, you can gain 9 medals with
the cheat
code, earn 1, gain 9 more, etc.
Bonus Mini-game
At the title screen, highlight "Sonic World" then hold A and press START.
This will
send you into Sonic World to get 100 rings in under 60 seconds.
I personally don't know what happens when you get this, but if anyone has
done it please E-mail me so I can post it.
Clean Pause Screen
For cleaner screenshots, press X + Y + Z while the game is paused.
Sonic 2 music (using
your PC)
If you look in the Sonic12 folder, you should find some music from Sonic
2 in AIFF
format.
Unlock All Levels in Time
Attack mode
To unlock all the levels in Time Attack mode for Sonic, Sonic 2, or Sonic
3 enter the
level select code for that game and play the final level. This will automatically
unlock all
the levels until you clear your Saturn's memory.
View All Movies
To watch all the movies in the theater in sequence, press X, Y, and Z,
and while
holding these, press A. It'll take longer to load up then usual, then you'll
watch all the
movies in order.
View Digital Manuals (using
your PC)
To view the digital manuals for the Sonic games on your computer screen,
put the CD
in your computer and look in the Man_Eng and Man_Jpn folders. The manuals
are
stored as .TIF files, which can be read by most professional paint packages
(e.g. Paint
Shop Pro) This can be useful if you want to print out sections of the manual
(e.g. High
score tables)
View Sonic Museum pictures
(using your PC)
[Use a paint package that can support raw data files e.g. PSP4]. Open the
MDG2
folder on the CD, and load one of the files, telling the program it is
a raw data file. For
the width, enter 640. For the height, enter 448. If there is a colors dialog
box, set it to
single channel (grayscale). After the picture has loaded, use the Negative
Image tool.
You should now have a b/w image from the Sonic Museum on your PC screen!
Note:
For some reason, the picture is offset to the left - nothing is wrong with
your
computer!)
View Titles and Info screens
(using your PC)
If you have Paint Shop Pro, you can view some of the title screens and
other
backgrounds etc. Put the CD in your PC again, and select the Browser function.
Enter
in D:\ (or whatever your CD is), and it should come up with some pictures
from the
game.
Resort Island - Mecha Sonic

Clean Pause
While playing, pause the game and press X + Y + Z at the same time.
Duplicate Characters
Player 2 can play as the same character as player 1 . The first player
picks a character
then the second player high lights the same character. Hold X + Y + Z.
This also
works for Super Sonic and all hidden characters.
Easy Emeralds
As soon as the race begins, hold LEFT until another racer completes two
laps.
Head Start
To get a head start in a race, hold DOWN and keep pressing B as fast as
you can.
When the race starts, let go of the D-pad.
Manipulate the Title Screen
To have a little fun with the title screen, wait a moment, then fiddle
with the D-pad. the
"R" will rotate to your will. If you press the B button, the color of the
R will change to
a metallic outlook. Pressing the A Button restores the R to its former
color. Pressing Y
and X will darken or lighten the R.
Zoom In
On the main screen, the character screen and most screens, push the L button
to zoom
in and the R button to zoom out.
I'm Outa Here
If you let Sonic sit for three minutes without doing anything, he'll grow
bored, say "I'm
outa here!" and race off the screen, thus ending the game.
Level Select
Press Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Space at the title screen. Just like
in the Sega
version, you can choose any level, past, present, or future. However, if
you warp or
finish the level you will return to the title screen.
Sound Test and More
At the title screen, press Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Space to call
up a Sound
Test menu. Special things will happen if you select the following sound
combinations
and press Start.
